Central locking & remote & done lights not working

I need a little help here guys, as this one really has me stumped :madred:

I get up to go to work this morning & my remote won't work :(

So I opened the door with the key but there's no dome light
Yes globe works for on, just not for the door (centre position) nor does the central locking, it's not working either :madred:
Even when I hit the button on the door, the central door lock doesn't work either.

So I think :censored: dead battery, but no  car starts fine, first go. So it's not the cars battery.

I tried the spare key, that doesn't work either :madred:

I put a new battery in the key, nope it's not that, still won't work :yell: (yes I tried it both ways, so it's not upside down)
I also checked to make sure its the correct one (battery) & yes it is :iconwink:

Checked the fuses (both inside the car & under the bonnet) twice. They're all fine so it's not them either :yell:

So what I asking is, does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong, because this one really has me stumped :furious:

Any ideas would be appreciated & many thanks in advance :)

If the dome light isn't coming on either then a sensor or some wiring isn't reconnizing the doors open. The central locking won't work either if one door is open so possibly a sensor. If you get in the car and turn the ignition key to start (or just start the car) and have all the doors closed does it say any doors are open?

I was thinking the same thing.
But the thing that is really bugging me is the cabin / dome light not working
While I think of it, the ring light (the round one where you put the key in) isn't working either :sadbanana:

When you say resetting, do you mean resetting the remote or the ECU ?

I just tried your idea taza (engine running & all doors closed) & there are no dashlight indicators saying that there are any doors open.
Tried the central locking button & still not working

I might try resetting the ECU & see how that goes.

Have you checked the fuses with a multi-meter, or just visual inspection?
I have occasionally found that an apparently OK fuse fails the multi-meter test ...

Just FWIW. Bloody irritating, this sort of thing.

Just a visual test mate, as I don't have a multi-meter unfortunately.

I just finished resetting the ECU & no change, it's still the same :eviltoyou:

Bugger mate. Atleast you can lock your car!

We have a Holden Astra and the central locking stopped working after about 9months of owning it. The worst part is that there is no key hole in the door/boot or car at all to lock it manually and no lock on the insides of the doors or dash. We couldn't lock it for about 6months.... until Holden sorted out the issue.

Might be time to see if you can borrow a multimetre off someone for a few beers and see if its the wiring. Otherwise it might be time for an auto electrician or some Googling...

SubaruForester.org and Ozfoz are very knowledgeable if you do some searching there.

Good luck mate :raspberry:

I was thinking, just after I posted, what I said above about the visual test of the fuses & they must be ok.
I say this because the dome light is working when in the on position :).

Surely if it was the fuse, then the dome light (at least) wouldn't be working.

I'm now more inclined to think it's like taza said & to be one of the sensors

Sorry mate, I have no idea- perhaps Taza is on the money

When you say resetting, do you mean resetting the remote or the ECU ?

I was suggesting going through the remote resetting process so the ecu recognizes the remote, just as if you'd got a new one.

Its just a stab in the dark (lol) but I've learned over the years if you've tried all the obvious causes, then try some unlikely ones...then again others on here have far more experience than me. Taza seems to be pretty cluey with a lot of this stuff

Dropped in to my Subi dealer this arvo on the way home & they tried a couple of things. One was resetting the central locking & that didn't work.

They also tried (& checked ) the rear tailgate as sometimes there is an issue with the latch, as it thinks that there is a door still open. No not that either.

After about 45mins or so (which was free) they were still completely stumped too
His exact words were.... quote "well it's got me :censored:" un quote

Now I don't feel so bad :p

They did say it could be a few things though. From the door switch, or the modulator for the central locking, or some type of short behind the fuse box....who knows

They suggested I'd have to leave it there, with them & go from there :o

You've probably shaken something loose! Do all the other controls on the driver's door work i.e. except the central lock button?

You might be on to something there mate :raz:

Yes they do
The 4x window buttons & the window lock button all work fine

One comment that was made, when they looked at it yesterday was that the central button didn't feel right & felt funny.

Just pulled the controls / switches on the door off & had a look.
There's nothing loose & visually all looks good. Nothings wet or corroded, just a bit of dust. Gave them a dust off & still no go :sadbanana:
When I put the fuse back in (& forgot to mention before) you could hear the door locks clicking as if they were working/trying to work.
This still has me thinking that there's a short in or behind the fuse box somewhere
