N/A Supercharger Project x2

Good luck mate.

Just wondering about the whole switchable thing. Will the s/c cause a restriction in the intake when it's not running?

Probably, but from talking to Subarino (EJ22 Supercharged Hatchback L-series) there wasn't much restriction.

I know Bennie but I leave Geraldton next Friday (Moving back home then Perth in a number of weeks) and won't have access to a some gear in a long time unless some Perth guys can give me a hand.
Mainly a welder, so if I can get the bracket together to support the device then thats the main thing, the rest i can do at home (160k from Geraldton and won't have any help).
So im going to try and get it done, plus I don't ahve to run it. If I can get it mounted and the air intake piping done I can wait to install the RRFPR later on along with the BOV.

Apparently not - it's a very good all rounder once setup properly.

Also Taza, just remembered, forget the BOV that vents to the atmosphere, go for a setup similar to the factory one - this is where the BOV vents around the SC14 so the air is effectively just cycling so no boost is being produced. It won't mess with your ECU either.

If you've spoken to Subarino about it in depth you'll know that he hooked up two BOV's to sort out the boost while off throttle issue.

You'll work it out.

Thanks, yep done that. He said a plumb BOV, so I got a cheapie off ebay. I don't have a clue how to install one of these things to be honest. Trying to google but im not getting much thats helpful :(

Yeah fair enough, I know what it's like not having access to your own tools etc.

Good luck with it - hopefully once you've got one bracket made up you'll just have to produce another without any mods ;)

Cheers

Bennie

Yeah, the bracket will be time consuming but once one is done just replicate it for the other since Subie engine bays are pretty much the same (outback vs forester or similar years).

Will make a plan and put up here for anyone in the future wishing to do the same thing.

You can use my workshop and gear if you need when your down in Perth. I don't have any expertise to share with you though I'm sorry.

I'll be away in early feb though picking up my foz!

If you have a look at this Supercharger (SC14) the pipe that goes from the inlet to the outlet has a solenoid on it, this is basically the blow off valve, but it's a plumbed in one.

AFAIK to do it you need the BOV on the pressurised side of the SC, before the throttle body with the vented air plumbed back into the piping before the SC. I think it's that simple ;) In this stock setup from the factory the ECU or throttle position, engine rpm etc would trigger the solenoid to open when you're off throttle or at idle.

Cheers

Bennie

PS, I hope this image is correct as I can't see the whole full sized image at the moment!

Sounds like you're going to be "slightly" busy in the next few days :)
I'll be watching this intently & can't wait to see it when it's finished
It's going to be absolutely brilliant... & a real beast thats for sure

Regards

Back from work out bush so now i can put some work into our project.

At the moment my main concern is fitting the darn thing in the engine bay. Mounting hopefully shouldnt be too bad. My OB engine bay has a bit more room than the foz.

Biggest problem for both of us is the charger would likely fit where the current filter boxes are for the air intake. However, in that location the radiator hose passes through where the belt needs to do for the pulleys. The only way i can see to solve this is either put the charger where the battery is now as that would be clear of obstruction for the pulleys, or somehow modify the hose from the radiator to be out of the way.

I really would like to see you guys spending more time planning. You're asking a lot of yourselves to do it all in one weekend. Most people spends months doing this kinda thing...planning, playing, changing, changing again lol.

I hope it goes in with no big ordeals... ;)

Officially ive left Geraldton but since I have a week of work left im staying at Daves place. Means after work can work on it for one car. If we can get the brackets made up I can work on the rest at home and in Perth over the next few weeks, its really just the bracket as I won't have a welder with me.

Relocated the battery to the otherside of the engine bay today in Daves outback. The mount is secure and it a all fit without too much trouble. Will post pics tomorrow.
Will be doing tje foz engine bay tomorrow after work too.

What makes you say that CF?

Has anyone driven with one of these fitted?

So, in an off-road 'up hill' situation, it would be a case of 'flicking the switch' just before stalling out ... ?

Ive heard of them in action, they are crap. Do nothing to power, if anything restrict air flow.

Does't your 2.5 have enough grubnt for the job? Its more your low range, right that lets you down along with the open diffs?

Thats why im doing the supercharger. I have decent gearing (4.11 diffs with 45% lo range) but not the power to back it up. I need more low end torque and just general power thus the SCshould give me similar power to your 2.5 but with more torque, mainly in the low end too

Relocated my battery afterwork. Photos to come tomorrow.

Daves welding skills are getting pretty good now so this will help when making the bracket for the SC.
