PICTURE POST: your favorite off-road shot!

Lovely shot Blue Fox. I'd be interested in your post-processing strategy if you don't mind. I see you pushed it to +2, so I'm assuming there's some kind of HDR / exposure balancing involved?

Yep, I shoot in HDR. I take anywhere between 3-5 pictures in varying exposures. I usually edit on the "+2" version of the picture exposure as my camera puts it, but I have chopped up pictures of all three making the final edit.

I've been wanting to make a YouTube video of how I go about editing my pictures, and it's simply not just HDR compiling (I never use the HDR compiler in Photoshop or Aperture) as it just doesn't turn out the way I like. I want more control of where to put the overexposed, and underexposed parts of the picture, so lots of alpha channels, masks, feathering, etc. I put the image together (exposure wise) in Photoshop, then do all the color correcting and sharpening in Apple Aperture with NIK plugins.

Killer shot! Way to show those poontangs w/ no skill what the foz is about :lildevil:

Drove it to the top of "Kennebec Pass". Co Road 124, Durango, CO. Fun drive, difficult with a 5-Speed, but my Foz made it up with no problems. HARDLY what I would consider a "four wheel drive only" trail. I passed jacked up CJ's with snorkels, and kitted out Jeeps. All crawling at 1 mph in low range avoiding the "bigger" rocks in the trail. I passed them and made it a point to pick the hardest route to prove that "Yeah, that's a Subaru station wagon that just passed you."

Anyway, got to the top and snapped this crappy pic right before a big storm hit. And YES, that is a shear cliff. The top was only wide enough for one vehicle. One side (that I climbed to take the pic) was a jagged rock face, the other side was a straight drop off. Amazing view though.

jgrote (sf.org) and I drove our Fozzies to the top of the mountains just north of Silverton, CO. EPIC views up there.

So sexy, Bluefox! (your car, no you, sorry :p) You're making me want to sell my green '02 (or paint it?) to get a black '03+ too hahaha. I'd seriously do it if I had the cash haha.

Not really off road, but still some cool bridges in the Kumbrabow State Forest in West Virginia. Was taking a quick detour while on my way to watch a stage for Rally West Virginia.
