Ever since I have been into Subaru’s I have wanted a 4x4 Justy. Last Christmas my wife gave me Rusty :) She bought him off of her Brother’s roommate for $500. Included in the sale were 2 sets of steel wheels, a complete 2nd engine (<future turbo build ;)) and a box of assorted parts. All I can say is I love my Wife ;)

Nipper,

Very nice Justy, very nice indeed :) I wish to have a really clean 1st Gen Justy here soon so that I can DD it and go full bore on Rusty. If you ever want to sell I would travel for that one, lol.

Casm,

That photo is all Photoshop, and a rough one at that. I had a fellow RS25.com member mock that up so I could get a feel for what's to come. I have a bunch planned for Rusty in the coming months, a lot of it custom fab by me. Being a full time Tech at a dealership doesn't leave much time for Rusty, especially with a wife and daughter, lol. I am hoping to have my own shop in the near future so that I can work in all hours(I never sleep, lol)

Update-

I took Rusty on his first long distance drive. He made it from Canon City to Florissant (80 miles), then to Colorado Springs(65 miles), and finally back to Canon City(55 miles) making a total of 200 miles :) I am pretty happy with the fuel consumption as well. I filled the tank (9.2 gal) and by the time I filled again I had only lost 3.5 gallons :) making 55 mpg my average(If I did all that fancy math right, lol) The needle has barely moved ;)

I did realize however that Rusty is in serious need of some more power, but that should be all taken care of when the turbo motor is finished:lildevil: I had the poor little guy pinned to the floor in 3rd going 35mph up the steep hills :( He didn't give up though, he made me proud :)

-Update

I am about 90% done with the gauge panel, only missing some holes for switches and final trim/paint :) I may end up making another nicer version later on, but this one will suffice for now. The whole car is basically in test phase right now ;)

I am leaning more and more towards the Speedliner bedliner for the whole car exterior/interior(interior later on), but I am now thinking of going with a light gray/charcoal color liner. I am thinking the white liner material will yellow over time, and the gray would hide offroad damage better in the end.

I will be uploading new pictures all the time once I renew my Flickr and acquire my new camera :) I am a pretty avid photographer, and if anyone local would like a nice photo-shoot for the price of say..., lunch and material, I am all there, lol.

I had another Photoshop done to see what some gray bedliner would look like. I think a little more gray and it will look pretty decent for a trail rig :)

ive thought about doing the same thing! my car started out white, but I didnt like white and half the paint was coming off anyway from offroading everyday so I spraypainted it black. now I think im gonna strip it all down and bedliner everything lol

You guys seen the mythbusters show on bedliner.............Pretty interesting at the least.

I want some but I imagine it costs a fortune, not even sure if we get it over here.

I have a personal friend that has sprayed about 12 different vehicles in town, 1 being a Porsche 911 :monkeydance: I will do the entire car after I get the engine work all sorted out. For now I am basically stopping the rust moths before any further damage happens ;)

I have not seen that episode, but now I am searching Netflix, lol.

I am having the whole car sprayed (exterior) for $800. It is almost double the cost of the car, but when you think about the offroading this little guy will see over the next couple seasons of life, it will be well worth the cash/trouble.

Good idea, how much weight will it add?
I'd consider doing the underside of my fox if it's not too heavy or pricey.

The weight of the amount of liner I will have sprayed will honestly be no more than a good 3 stage paint job ;) I have been contemplating doing front/rear bumpers out of a lighter steel or aluminum for weight savings, as well as the tube flares and rock guards. It needs to with stand rock punishment and let the car go more than 35 mph down the road, lol. I am hoping the turbo engine will help out a ton. The factory HP rating is 73 hp bone stock, a little less than needed for the amount of gear I will carry, also for the trails I plan to hit. I plan for about 3-5 psi of boost, which should hit around 100-115 hp. That should be plenty of power for the 2600 lbs I am setting as max load. The car sits right at 1783 lbs right now(1/4 tank of gas, all recovery gear, camp gear, myself, full interior).

Update-

I just got done dropping off the exhaust manifold and turbo at my buddy's machine shop. I am having him make an adapter plate to fit the OEM exhaust manifold to the TD-04 turbo I have. It should be a pretty snappy engine when all is said and done. I will need to PnP the manifold once he is finished, then the head, oil passages, etc. I want this engine to be built as if it has 500 hp going through it, that way 115 hp will be nothing ;) I always over-build my projects, but I almost never have issues either :)

-Jamie

Thank you for posting that up, I always love a good MythBuster episode :) I think the low speed test proved that I will be ok rocking into rocks on the trail, lol. If anything, I know I can just break out some extra bedliner and do touch ups here and there.

great ride bro . looks like rusty will do just fine this summer

It should do "ok" until it gets the turbo swap. Then it should be a force to reckoned with on a trail, lol. I have a TON of progress done on it I just need to get some pics up for everyone to see ;)

Taking Rusty on his first offroad adventure tonight :) My buddy and I are going to see how he takes some ATV trails on our property behind the house. If anything I can see where he needs some work on a trail. If I can get my Flickr up tonight I will post up pics.
