Sydney day trip? 15th or 16th Aug?

Notes start at the intersection of Putty Rd and Putty Valley Rd. My understanding is it's just a loop of roads so no one name.

We'll meet at the servo and then proceed to Putty Valley Rd and on from there. AS I said I haven't done it before so I'll be relying on the notes and the few GPS waypoints. Hopefully we won't get lost and waste time. I can post the GPS waypoint coordinates tonight.

We'll probably be in UHF range of either so if you're on your own you can always call out.

I have a shocking memory. What channel are we usually on?

I think Ch15 on the Kurrajong trip.
Yes thats correct, you have a good memory simxs. :)
I normally sit on Ch15 UHF when I'm offroading. :iconwink:

Thanks Eden, didn't get a chance last night.

Don't know if that's the track or not as I haven't done it before but if it is I don't see anything that'll be a problem. I'm certainly not expecting any of it to be a problem for anyone.

I'm certainly looking forward to the weekend.

is this the track? you rekon a stock outback will be able to do it? i hope so im pretty pumped bout goin on the track lol
Yes it is, well some of it anyway. :)
I was on that trip that day. (Feb 08)
Our trip leader that day was in a stock MY06. So I think you should be ok mav. :iconwink: Just depends on whats happened (track conditions etc) during the past 18mths or so.

I remember seeing the photos from the Subaru club of the long flooded section of bitumen.
So do I, mainly because I took the pics (most of them anyway) then did the water crossing in my Forry. :raspberry:

Here is the trip report I did for that particular trip. (NOTE I have blacked out names for privacy reasons)

QUOTE.
We met up around Windsor & headed off from there. We first hit the dirt at Putty, where we aired down & headed towards Wollemi N.P. Our first stop was at Sheepskin Hut where we decided to have morning tea.
From here we headed through Wollemi N.P. & along Commission Trail for a while. The tracks had some interesting driving, that consisted of a little bit of everything. When I say that I mean dirt, of several colours. Brown, yellow & even a little bit of red bull dust was thrown in for good measure, not forgetting the small sandy part we drove through as well. There was the occasional minor rutt, that we had to go through & a few large rocks that we had to drive around. Well some of us had to anyway, hey ***** ? At one stage of the track we had a few tight corners, the occassional small creek crossing & the odd hairpin turn.

There was plenty of fallen trees on the tracks that we had to negotiate, which only made the day more fun, but nothing major that was going to stop us from passing or driving around. After stopping for a late lunch, we headed towards Bucketty Historic Precint via the Yengo & Mt Simpson Track. We had a break at Mt Yengo to take in the views from the lookout, which I have to say are absolutly magnificant. We also had a quick stop to check out the Aboriginal rock carvings, before heading off for the final part of our adventure.

Now this is where it got very interesting indeed. We had about 38km’s to go on our trip & after travelling about 34km’s of this, we came across a flooded road. AND I MEAN FLOODED ! ! !

After assessing the 1st part (2-3 feet deep & 80-100 mts in length) we decided to give it a go & made it through easily. BUT... what we then found around the next bend, was mind boggling to say the least ! The road was again flooded. This time it was at least 300+mts in distance to get across. ***** said that he would walk it & we would decide from there on whether we would attempt it or not. Whilst doing this a tow truck appeared on the other side of the crossing. He & ***** had a quick chat & the towie decided to drive across it back to where we were waiting. After seeing that the towie made it with ease, we made a unanimous decision to cross it.

And I am happy to say, that we all made it across safely.

From here it was a quick few km’s to the punt at Wisemans Ferry & the end of our trip, where we said our good-byes & headed for home.
END QUOTE

I don't know whether they will be the exact same tracks or not, but hopefully it helps.

I usally carry a handaxe as part of my recovery kit. Small trees can be dragged out of the way but a chainsaw would be good for larger ones, not that I'm expecting any.

What are we doing for lunch? Should I pack the BBQ or is everyone just going to do their own sangers etc?

I'm just going to do the usual & bring some bread rolls & wack something on them when we stop for lunch. :)

That'd be right LOL. Why can't there ever be a unanimous decision.

Actually, might be best to give it a miss this time. Thinking about that trip report it sounds like it might be a long day and we may not have time to set up, cook, cool down, clean up etc so might save it for a shorter trip (which I already have ideas about).

Yep and I can't wait.

BP servo at Kurmond on Bells at 9am (unless we want to go earlier?). UHF 15.

You don't want to meet us futher up Mav? We'll be at the intersection of Putty Rd and Putty Valley Rd (or very close to it) at say 10.30. Stop and stretch the legs for 15min before getting underway. It's probably close to 100km shorter for you. let me know know either way so we know where to wait for you.
