how did you get you get your screen name?

It's because my other passion is everthing aviation. Gotta love high-speed*, low-altitude in a remote valley listening to CCR :D

*High speed being a very relative thing since the only planes I've flown were a few Cessna 152, one 172 and a Piper PA28... This is far from the ''high speed'' and high-performance plane will get, but still... loads of fun!

Welcome Fly from another ol' pilot. Viejopedorro flew US Army Cobras and , in the trees(!), for about 25 years. Talk about low (fuselage between trees, rotors above) and slow (hovering, sliding sideways or backing up). We share the joy of flying. Glad to meet you Sir.

As usual, late to the game...I used to do re-enacting (yes, I'm one of THOSE guys) and whilst doing my medieval Scotsman schtick, this kid said to his friend, "everytime I go by that Scotsman, he looks mad." And it stuck. I also go by 2112 on another forum as madscotsman was not available. I suspect there many who know what 2112 represents...

viejopedorro: You flew Cobras? That's awesome! Closest thing I got on was a Griffon (Canadian Forces' version of the Bell 412P). Low-altitude is definitely quite an experience on helos :)

G'day MadScotsMan & viejopedorro :welcome:

Fly & viejopedorro, did you know the boxer engine was originally designed as an aviation engine. I think it was the EA series...

Scooby2 ... just because you have to identify WHICH Subaru to get in to... Swifty, Scooby, or... Scooby2.. and Why 3? Because I'm having a difficult time letting go of my first one :-)

Nachaluva, MadScotsMan and Fly: Please accept El Pedorro's apology for not checking this thread. Umm, yes, N., I did recall being told about the Boxer's aviation history. MSM, my Great Grands came to the US from Aberdeen, I believe, in the 1870's. Granddad was supposed to have been born very shortly after arrival--an early anchor baby, I guess. And Fly, you know that El Pedorro was the luckiest guy in the world to get into Army aviation. Half of us made it through officer training; half of the officer applicants made it through flight school. A tiny percentage were chosen for the Cobra, quite a new aircraft in 1970. Right place, right time, lucky guy. Got to fly in the Reserves and National Guard for all those years. Our training area was the Truman Lake Reservoir near Whiteman AFB, MO. As they said in Viet Nam: Un-effin-believeable!

My name is Thomas but many of my friends can't help but call me TomTom, not unlike the user friendly gps.

Gotta love forums, they really aid in procrastination when it comes to school work!

I think Brumby Boy is pretty self explanatory, but just in case... The first car I ever drove was dads old work Brumby (Brat for all you US folk) at the curious age of 5, yes 5 years old, and a Brumby was also the first car I owned when I got my licence, and then the second hehehe

I started usuing Brumby Boy back in 04 when I first started on internet forums (ausubaru and the USMB) and to avoid confusion I've stuck with it, even when I'm not on Subaru forums, such as aussiemagna.com, downundertrucking.com, etc etc.

I jump curbs to go around traffic and make illegal u-turns. I guess I'm impatient. Around Houston, there are impromptu "trails" that are made when people decide to get off the freeway before the exit or bypass traffic to make a red light.

Thats me all the time, when i use to daily drive my jeep with 33" tires i was unstoppable in the dallas traffic, with my subi i have to be more careful i don't have the 3 ft of ground clearance that my jeep has. Jumping curbs was a speed bump to me in the jeep. Oh if you are in dallas watch out for richardson cops i got a ticket for poping off the i75 onto the service road because of dead traffic, me and few other folks got slapped with 100$ ticket lol

Yes, your Subaru looks lower than mine.

Three feet of ground clearance with 33-inch tires? Sounds like funny math. Typically, gound clearance is determined by the lowest point of the underbody (transfer case, cross members, etc.). I've seen trucks with much bigger tires than 33 inches, and they don't even have 3 feet of ground clearance, except for maybe at the bumper, but that's not how ground clearance is determined. For 3 feet of ground clearance on 33-inch tires, your axles would have to be above the tires since 3 feet equals 36 inches.

Im in a group of car guys that numbers a bit over 200 members in the US and a few outside. But we are called HFD (Hela Fass Dooo). No one in the crew had a car with over 90 HP at the time so it was kind of a joke. But it stuck and we grew.

oops my bad... more like from the T case cross member Its almost 28" yea with 33" tires on 15" wheels.. not much ground clearance at the diffs...

my subi gonna stay like it is till the warrenty runs out then going with a 1" lift.

It's still a sweet-looking Cherokee. I miss my 4.0 Cherokee.
