What have you done to your car today?

Reamed the ball seats on one of my Audi rims to tapered seats. Will do the other 3 tomorrow. I made a reamer out of an old wheel nut. Worked well but had to clean the alloy out of the reamer each time. If anyone wants to borrow it when I'm done shoot me a PM.

Scratch that, after 4 rims it's blunt and clogs too easily to be of much use now.

Rims turned out sweet though. Magrepair wanted $320 to do it.

Mine? Drove it out of the garage, lol.

Then proceeded to replace the spark plugs on the Beca. Definitely from above on this Z36 engine. Air box and all associated hoses need to go, a bracket to which it mounts needs to be repositioned, too. On the other side, just the battery.

Cyl 5 and 6 are tough but not too bad with the bolts, etc, in good condition.

I also replaced the headlight bulbs as that is a pain as a stand alone job.

All in all, 75 for the OEM plugs from an online dealer vs 430 for plugs and labor at dealer.

First DIY job, hope car keeps running smoothly (it was during a 12 mile test drive and several starts).

Fitted up some Rally-Armour Mudflaps

^ interesting. The sheep in the Impreza were getting a bit worn after nearly 18 years, specially the D/S ...

Being an old sheep and cattle person, I can assure everyone that the ones I have in Roo2 won't last half that time, or distance!

Painted underbody with sound proof / stone protection paint. Is quieter now, on the inside anyway.

What did you use to paint on the underside?

I wouldn't mind quieting the car down but I am avoiding ripping into the car to put the sound insulation on the inside - it is just too hard.

Cheers,

Super Cheap seat covers can`t be described as quality ones.......

If you can do your own servicing you save heaps. I buy my semi synth oil and filters when on sale. When I changed the oil and filter on my SG a couple of weeks ago it cost me $25 versus $249 at a dealer!

Mine are the highest quality ones from Autobarn. So were the Impreza's. The modern ones have had about half the fleece combed out of them. The older ones hadn't.

The cost of custom made ones made even my CCs blanch ...
Cheaper to buy three sets from Autobarn ...

I would use FS 5W-40 rather than SS. The OM also recommends using FS. After 10K kms and 24 months, the Shell Helix Ultra FS 5W-40 still looked orange, felt and smelt fine. This oil costs around $60 for 5L. Worth every cent of it IMHO. Repco occasionally have it on special at around $40. Ross also hasn't any time for Repco oil filters. Ryco are fine.

Ross charges $180, including the above oil, filter and new sump plug gasket. He also checks out the entire car - i.e. he doesn't fail to notice that the rear P/S wheel is about to fall off ... Cars come back washed (by hand).

I purchase genuine Subaru oil filters, crush washers and most, smaller, spare parts from Subaru Parts Girl at Annapolis Subaru in the US of Paranoia.
Much much cheaper than OZ prices even with postage. Obviously not always easy to do as it makes sense to know in advance what parts you may need in order to order them and purchase a few sets of consumables as well to fill the post office standard sized box.
Some prices as examples, genuine Subaru parts,
Oil filters $5
Crush washers $0.75
Spark plugs, NGK, $2,27 each
Brake pads, $65 to $75 rear/front.

However with the drop in value of the OZ$ the price advantage is now much less. I last purchased a mob of consumables about a year ago.

Today, after much procrastination, I had the original front brake pads on my MY03 Forester replaced at 317836 kms.
The discs were in good enough nick to not require resurfacing but not a lot, about 1mm, of meat left on the pads which were pretty well evenly worn.
Gave it a new filter and drink of oil as well.

Fitted the Audi rims today with taper nuts and no hub rings, not even the slightest vibration. They actually look pretty good too.

They almost cleared the front calipers but I had to grind a little bit off.

Will take a week or so to learn how wide the track is now with the new offset, keep grazing the raised letters on kerbs.

went to finish re-installing the front struts on the liberty after removing the lift kit and loher bolts
get all the bottoms of the struts and wheels all bolted back in,
go to do up the 12mm strut top nuts and two studs have damaged threads so the nuts won;t screw on, can't get access with the die set, then i push one out of the strut top on the other side..

farkin Grrrr, now they both have to come completely out again.!
