Center Diff Switch

Should be able to - get yourself a circuit diagram or experiment with a multimeter to identify the TCM wires and you'll be good to go.

No viscous coupling in the auto trans, only in manual actually. As Kevin mentioned, on the auto the TCM (transmission control module) computer decides how much the lockup MPT (multi-plate transfer) clutch provides to engage the rear prop shaft.

hmmm... now I'm all sorts of tempted to do this. I hate trying to go 'wheeling or drifting through gravel and having almost all the power get dumped to the front wheels.

Hey, found this page, too. Very helpful. I can actually kind of understand it

https://www.rs25.com/forums/f8/t99075-4eat-diff-lock-switch-handbrake-mod-torquemada-lite.html

I'm wondering if one of the guys who has the mod (Kevin? Mr Turbo?) could comment on whether this is the same thing as the one from SF.org you guys have installed? I really couldn't understand the SF thread, but the rs25 post is so easy to understand I might try it. Just wish I had more time...

Off to Fraser Island tomorrow :woohoo:

Bit scared about whether I'll get bogged, disgrace Forester drivers, or destroy my Fozzie. Ah well, time will tell :p

Not sure Bumper, as I don't have that mod unfortunately. :sadbanana:

Have fun on Fraser Island, be safe & don't forget to take heaps of pics. :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Yep, it's the same. Have fun on Fraser - you'll be fine!

Hi, is this applicable to an 03 XT 4 auto?

Should be since your car uses MPT (multi-plate transfer) clutch to apportion drive to the back wheels, though I believe the specifics of the wiring varies a little between years (and between turbo and non turbo?) if memory of other posts on this mod serves me correctly.

Awesome, have to look into it further. Sounds like a mod that would be really handy up the beach.
Anyone with experience with this mods on soft sand and sand tracks? Plus's, minus's?

^ it was originally developed (over here at least) for sand to prevent friction build up and wearing of plates - so - works like a charm!

Sounds awesome. Last time i was up the beach i came home on high tide, so 30mins of soft white sand driving, and could really smell the transmission. Didnt mind too much, gave it some rests and had the 200k service done when i got back anyway.

I think next mods will be a big tranny cooler (currently has tow pack one) and the centre diff mod. That should sort it out.
