Dmax coming??

Forgot to add. According to the paper from ARB the front went from 740mm to 780mm and the rear from 750 to 830. No idea where they measure it from but I assume it would supply a consistent measurement.
The GVM upgrade I have got done has the springs in the front for a steel bar and winch and the rears are 300kg constant to GVM.
ARB suggest the maximum lift they aim for with a Dmax is 30mm because of the drive line set up. I need to get some weight in the back. The towbar and trundle draw will help.
Once the alloys and winch and bar go on it will start to look better. Poor thing...it's just very plain :ebiggrin:.

Congrats, Silver.

It's been quite a wait for you!

New cars are always special ... :).

How does it drive?

If you enjoy cars/driving like we do it IS nice when you get a new car. It drives quite well all things considered. A bit jumpy at the rear and the steering is slower than a car and you can feel the 'lag' in the rear suspension from the leaf springs but I reckon it will be a good cruiser by the time I am finished. I am going to get Dynamat put in a lot of places to try and make it nice and quiet and also to see just how good it is.
The motor is good and feels sort of lazy. In fact I liked the hum of the diesel at 100kph...quite reassuring in a way.

A bit jumpy at the rear

A few bags of cement will fix that! Mine was very much like that but once loaded up with all the gear it settled down. However it will still buck / rabbit hop somethimes when offroad.

Congratulations & hope you have many miles of trouble free motoring ahead Silver. You will find your underbody drawer a fantastic addition. Do you have any plans for a canopy? See some great setups around now.

Best regards,

Hi Silver,
An extremely minor point but please change your town of residence to Tathra........
Or perhaps it is deliberate for nit pickers like me..........

Looks like an awesome setup Silver, you will have many great adventures :-) The worry about being flighty in the rear won't last for long once you start decking it out. We did a false floor in an aluminium canopy which serves as bench space for working and sleeping space for travelling.

Best regards,

I fitted the towbar today. Fairly awkward to do by yourself but some rope and a bit of juggling and it was done. I gave the bolts a bit of extra heave ho to make sure they are not coming loose. I'm not sure what the thing was that was on the rear end, maybe a tie down point or something. Anyway I thought it might be useful and put it back on. I measured the rear end for before and after but it did not lower a millimetre. The towbar weighs 42kg.
I let some air out of the tyres...so much for a pre-delivery check...all round 40psi except for one rear at 43lb. The placard says 200kpas front and 280 rear. I make this 30lbF and 41lbR. I'm running 36 all round at the moment. Am I right in my conversions?? 30 front seems a bit low for a light truck tyre.
Talking of tyres I priced replacement of the stock tyres which are Bridgestone 693's 245/70/16's and got a bit of a shock at $283 each. I'm going to sell the five of them once I get my alloys. I think the price just went up!!

I run my Triton up around 42/44 cold laden so 36 unladen sounds OK. If the back jumps around too much without any weight in it just reduce the pressure in the rear a bit.

I dropped the front to 31 and the rears to 35 to see how it goes. A bit better with the towbar and lower pressures but still a bit harsh. Think I will stick at 34R and wait till I get the trundle draw put on and maybe stick a bit of a load in the draw.

You probably need to swap it around 35 front and 31 rear for the time being.

The placard says 30 for front and doesn't change for load or no load.
Filled it back up today. 67.53ltrs for exactly 700klms. 9.65lp 100klms. Not that good at the moment. That was with a return trip from Sydney. Should get better as it runs in I guess. I would hope to get mid 8's really.

Got this today. 1800mm x 735mm x 150mm deep. It's on Teflon sliders and colour coded Isuzu white. Overall it's pretty good but I will take it back for a couple of mods to stop it bouncing. Easy done I reckon. Valuable space for my recovery gear, tools etc. I am going line it with the trusty old marine carpet.

I will need to do a couple of mods before I am 100% happy. Got to stop the free play that allows it to bounce, need to put something at the end at the front (cabin) end that stops metal on metal ....as in ...when you push it shut it is the tray hitting the enclosure at the end that stops the tray going any further. It won't take much to wear the powder coating off at the end of the tray. It is also far from dust proof which was a bit disappointing and will have to be addressed somehow.
It is in at ARB today getting the bar and winch on and I will post up later. That is all my money will allow at the moment and will have a couple of months off to recover the finances.

The drawer looks great! should be easy to pad the end so its not meteal on metal.

You could use rubber stripping all around the opening to seal it against dust & rain/moisture

Got the ARB bar fitted and the Ironman 9500lb winch. Also picked up the Dmax alloys my kids had stored for me in Qld. It's starting to look like how it should!!
