Dmax coming??

:ebiggrin::ebiggrin: Just got a call from Suttons. My ute should be in their yard around Monday next week. Because of the GVM upgrade I am getting, delivery will take around 2 weeks or a bit more as the paper works takes a while to go through the system.
That's cool. Lets say 1st or 2nd of Dec and it will be home!!

Still not here. Bit of a pain really as I would like to get stuff moving. It doesn't really matter as the tray won't be made until next week and ARB have a front spring shortage. Maybe it will be my Xmas present

... I have learned silver... that you can't hurry things. Just quietly I hope we don't ever have to go through setting up a ute for a very long time. Very happy now, but OMG.. what a saga!

Best regards,

I think I have it sorted....in my head anyway :). It's more a matter of the cost of things and then getting them fitted. Next week i'll post a pic of my spare room with my collection of ute goodies. It's not half bad :).

lol! I have the giggles. I thought I had it sorted in my head too until we were lucky enough to get a newly designed tray that wasn't quite what we expected! Patience, I have learned.... is a virtue ;-)

Best regards,

Not unlike a certain trailer I could mention ... :iconwink:.

Well it is here. Fairly annoyed with Suttons lack of communication though. I sent them an email late last week and they advised it should be early this week and I sent another email on Wed and they replied saying the car was here!! No phone call, just a reply to my email. ????? Pretty ordinary. I have organised everything by email. The tray is made and getting fitted on Monday and it will be in ARB for the suspension/GVM upgrade on Monday week and then I will bring it home. Lots to get done on it and I will have to pace myself with the money.
I doubt it will ride very good. The front springs and shockies allow for a bar and winch and the rear are 300kg constant to GVM so with just a tray on it could be a bit ordinary. Hopefully I can get the bar and winch fitted soon and the rear will have a trundle draw fitted. This is not your ordinary trundle draw...all steel, no pop rivets..great bit of gear and so well made by a local mob. It has a bit of weight so that might settle the rear.

Gidday Silver

Well it is here.

Congrats, mate. Agree about the wonderful communication ...

I know it's different, but my '68 LC was like that.
Pretty rugged with nothing in the back for both ride and handling. Put half a ton of concrete fence posts in the back and it was a somewhat different vehicle to drive.

The static load you have planned and allowed for will settle it down a lot, I reckon.

I must admit I am looking forward to what I can do in my new set up but as far as the ute itself goes I just can't get it out of my head that they are pretty ordinary, overpriced bits of gear. I just hate the thought of driving around in a vehicle with drum brakes and leaf springs. I mean...it's rubbish...no matter what good points...and as far as I am concerned there are none....people try to come up with regarding load carrying etc...it is low tech stuff that should have gone the way of the roman empire.
The manufactures con people about 'load carrying' ability, 'swept area' of the brakes ..blah...blah...blah.
The facts are MOST people who buy these things DON'T use them to carry loads..they use them for towing. The manufactures do it because they don't have to re-tool. It is cheaper for them. That's it!!
Lets face it...$50-60,000 for a ute!!! You have got to be kidding. I saw the V6 Navara price on the Nissan website at $70,000!!!!!!!!! What a bloody joke but there are people out there who have paid this. It's bloody madness.:poke:
And talking about Nissan it looks like they will be leading the way. The new Navara will have a choice of coils and discs or leaf springs. What would you choose!!
Anyway it will get me where I want to go and I am aiming to have some fun and I will just have to adjust my driving style to suit a tractor I guess.

My thoughts are the same about the pickups (leaf springs and rear drums…)

I remember that Honda made a ute with 4 independent suspension called Ridgeline but I think it never sold well…maybe because it was not very nice in terms of design.

All the ARB parts have turned up and will be fitted Monday ready for me to pick up. Home on Tuesday...i'll post a pick but it will be plain Jane for a bit.

.....the excitement builds......... :iconwink:

Here's a couple of pics. She's plain Jane at the moment but tinting will be done on Monday and winch, bar and trundle draw in mid Jan. It will look tougher then!!

Very nice! As you mentioned in your first post you want to consider some offroad wheels / tyres and I suggest also they be higher profile tyres to raise the diffs. We had 2 of these, 1 x tray-back and 1 with tub out with us at Abercrombie a couple of weeks back and they scraped their diffs often.

I have 9 factory alloys. People don't like the factory alloys and flog them off cheap. I have 5 from an MUX with tyres that have done next to nothing and 4 from a Dmax with tyres about half gone. 5 are at my mates place in Newstead Vic and he is just trying to sort out a way to get them to me or Canberra or somewhere closer. My kids have the other 4 on the Gold Coast and I will pick them up when I go for a visit late Jan. I'll sell the ones on it and use the alloys for my daily drive and have 4 of them fitted with Toyo Open Country 2's. Size will be 245/75/17. These are almost exactly the biggest legal size. The plate says fitted with 245/70/16 although the std Dmax alloy is 255/65/17. The SX does not come with alloys so I guess I have to work off the size on the plate. It's the only tyre listed. I think in NSW you are allowed 7% over std so all is good.
245/70/16 is 750 OD and 245/75/17 is 799 so the diff would be up 25mm on standard.
EVERYTHING will be legal as I don't want any hassels with insurance.
I know a guy with one of these and he told me the towbar can hit at times also but it was pretty steep.
I'll see how it goes after I have set it all up and go from there.
