Subaru's Latest Joke

They got it right the first time, what happened!

I thought it was to be evolution, not retribution!

The XV station wagon would look good with 25+ cm of ground clearance, just like a '97-'08 Forester but without low range...:yell:

If Subaru used a little less of Mrs Brown's turd polish in it's current designs and I might agree with you, till then errr no! :shake:

I think the (non-)consensus that comes out of this thread is that some people like the new styling, some people don't care and some people don't like it.

Isn't it wonderful that we're all different? :poke:

Many here don't like the styling of the series II SG. I like it very much, mainly because I wash my own car. Like my '93 Impreza, it's bloody easy to wash! In fact, easier than my Impreza was ...

It takes me roughly double the time to wash SWMBO's SH, mainly because of all the fiddly bits and stylistic changes of direction in the panel work, but particularly because of the "complicated" topology of the front bumper!! Having to get out the short step ladder so I can reach the whole roof doesn't actually help much, either ... :iconwink:.

The SH is a highly expensive, complicated, insect killer, perhaps? And we all know that modern insects use Araldite for their internal componentry and fluids ... :poke: :rotfl: :rotfl:

All those complicated, edgy bits can't be good for ironing pedestrians, either ... :iconwink:

i love the styling of the new impreza. only thing i dont like about the new wrx is sedan only, i hate sedans. hatches look so much better and are so much more practical.

I wouldn't say Subaru's designs have always been beautiful in the past. But I guess the Vortex was beautiful in the eyes of some beholders...

For years almost the only times I've driven sedans have been rentals. For something that's going to let me get around town/country for a short period I don't really care how it looks. But when it rains I really miss the rear window wiper!

I would, with Italian designed bodies and German conceived engines! They were magnificent.

But Subaru then lost the plot after 04-06 and went grovelling to the US market with ever fatter Cadillac like bling bling. The current trove of media spun angry faced obese Hippo's with obsolete drive trains signals an inevitable demise of this now confused and directionless marque. Hang onto your early's and SG's if you want the genuine identifiable Subaru experience!

I especially liked the wacky digidash's that came out.

You had to study the manual first before you had any clue to what's go'in on but once mastered they were great! But not for everyone I admit.

I've kept mine in the family, dunno what will happen if the daughter ever wants to trade it in, I'd like to buy it back for a runaround town car, I love the shape because it is readily identifiable.

I did like the SVX; as a 1990's sports car it was quite good. Most did not even recognize it as a Subaru

Yeah same here but with all that glass, rather hot inside for Australian conditions unfortunately! :(

^ they did have a/c back in the '90s :iconwink:

I had 2 friends with SVXs and I was an occasional passenger in both. Seemed to handle well and comfortable too.

You guys are a freaking tough crowd, holy crap! And I thought SF.org were pessimistic!

At least see it in person before giving up on it. Subaru's have never been flattering to take pictures of (why do you think I always have the same angle in all my pictures........it looks HORRIBLE in any other angle).

2015 WRX was a bit of a disappointment compared to the concept they released earlier, but still, it looks great, and has a presence to it. Seeing this in person and on the road will make your head turn, I guarantee it. Plus, everyone complains about how a new Subaru looks, and those people usually come back a year or so later and end up owning it or wanting it.

Personally I like it. Needs some larger wheels by the looks of it, but so did the previous generation model. It's a looker for sure, not sure what everyone was expecting. (and I'd like to see you do better).

^ Hey BlueF,

We are a funny lot here. Tend to drive our cars rather than look at them :rotfl:. And when I'm driving it, it's for my benefit, not for anyone else to look at ...

As for bigger wheels, SWMBO's SH has 225/55 17" rubber on OEM alloys. The car is obviously designed as a living room on wheels, yet these wheels/tyres make it noticeably less comfortable than my SG on 215/60 16" on OEM alloys ...
The only thing that saves it as a comfortable touring car is the excellent seats. My SG also has excellent seats.

Some cars are coming out with wheels/tyres that are patently ridiculous. Have we completely forgotten why Mr Dunlop invented the inflatable, pneumatic tyre? We are coming perilously close to wheels that may as well have solid rubber tyres. Useless bone-shakers ... :puke: :puke:.

And don't they look hilarious with their 300/15 21" tyres, all except for the one wheel fitted with their stupid space saver 125/90 21" spare :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Sorry, but I'm a great believer in the concept of placing function before fashion ... :poke: :).

The best Forrie I know is the SG. So I'm keeping mine because I don't want a gutless 2 litre single range.

The best WRX I reckon is the MY99/00 WRX. Since then, the brakes have gotten far worse, weight has gone up (a lot) and the engines less able to cope with mods.

I don't want a gutless car with single range gearbox so you won't find me in one soon. I don't want an overweight, underbraked sporty car either, so I'll keep my 99 WRX too. I'll see if the hype Subaru are shouting about is matched by reality. But BRZ aside, Subaru form over the last few years is not encouraging.

^ I agree, Rally.

Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it ... ), I am of an age when Roo2 will probably out last me. In fact, with my health issues, that's almost certainly the case!

Anyway, I far prefer it to driving SWMBO's SH. It's a better car in some ways, but I like the form factor, handling, etc, of the series II SG.

For a 'white goods car', I reckon that Subaru got it just about perfect.
Then they had to go and stuff it up ... :(.
