Will's H6 Outback

Since I have been doing a few more things to the outback I thought I'd start a journal.

The car started off as a high kms car that I managed to pick up cheap because it had head gasket issues. The car was then converted to dual range manual and had the heads rebuilt.

As it sits today it has:

2'' Crossbread body lift
Raised springs
SubaXtreme front bar
SubaXtreme sump guard
215-70-16 BFG A/T's
Dual batteries
2 way
110db stereo
Roof top tent

And what I have been working on this weekend...

A new roof rack system.

As the plastic ends on my standard roof bars where not quite up to the job of holding the tent I decided to buy some pro rack roof tracks. The tracks are bolted in place in the standard bolt positions, riveted to the roof and sealed/glued with polyurethane.

The new rails will be used to support this!
Tradies rack that had been cut down to suby size. Hopefully got onto welding it next weekend. Will be designed to carry windsurfing gear/surfboards and rooftop tent.

Yeah mate, first pic on page 3 it is on top of the rack. Only thing I would suggest is though if you are going to make one yourself is to consider making it out of aluminium to keep weight down, especially if it's going on the standard bars. I wish I could weld aluminium (I also wish I could weld steel well :P)

Yeah I see now. I was thinking the tent was going in between the two side rails and opening backwards or something.

I was hoping to go aluminium but racks are pretty pricey :shake: and like you I cant weld aluminium.

Hey everyone. It is about time I put up some pics from the trip I guess :P

After getting home I have been a bit sick of subys and have been spending time on other things. The motivation is starting to come back so I thought I'd put up some pics.

These will be not even a ding in the amount of photos as we too 1,000s of the things.

Me and my girlfriend Zoe, and a bunch of mates in an old Townace set off on Christmas night. Although a long way the Nullabor is an amazing part of our country with some beautiful land scapes!

The reason we had an excuse to trip over was to compete in the Sharpie class national titles. Due to lack of preparation and an extremely underweight crew for the conditions we ended up coming well down the fleet. We made up for it by drinking lots of Emu Exports :P

After the Nationals we met up with Taza, Davidov and Stilson for the day and went out for some fun in some extremely boggy, hot, dirty sand. This was good as it gave me a bit of confidence as to what the car was capable of loaded up in the company of others. Was so great to meet these great guys and put some faces to their cars. I would also like to put in a big thank you to Taza for fixing our aircon issues and letting us use his Brumby in the mean time.

After Perth we set off south. We ended up getting 'stuck' in Dunsborough for about a week and a half. Catching up with friends, surfing fishing, snorkeling and alot of relaxing. It was hard to leave!

Anyway thats enough for tonight, some more soon.

Bit of Subie overload lol. Good to hear the enthusiasm is coming back :iconwink:

Some nice pics, hope we get to see some more...

Great pics hydrowill :raz:

The last one where you're looking out at the ocean is a beauty :raz:

So some more pics from the trip...

As we headed south of Dunsborough we found heeps of little tracks off caves road (the alternative to the highway).

One took us here, Cape Mentelle.

Next we traveled a little further south to Margaret River. The only time other than Perth that we stayed in a caravan park. This was because the Beer and Wine tour needed an address to pick us up from and drop us home. As far as beaches go I wasn't that rapped with Margs, crowded, developed and really touristy.

Some more exploring of Cape Naturaliste N/P

In the Gloucester national park I climbed the 'Gloucester Tree'. A 72m high fire lookout. The climb is surprisingly sketchy.

More to come

Great pics :) & you're not wrong about the climb being sketchy
But I'm guessing it was worth it, as the view from the top looks amazing

Really was one of the highlights of the trip that climb. A flock of 28 parrots kept everyone company as they climbed.

Now there's a breed of parrot (28's parrots) that I haven't heard of in a long time.
It's beautiful bird that closely resembles the Port Lincoln Parrot :raz:

Cool rig!
I actually saw you when you were in town! I drove right past you (in a Ford Fairlane so you wouldnt have noticed) and i reckoned that was a wicked Gen3 :)

I just bought a Gen3 outback, will need a bashplate and was thinking of a subaxtreme one but you said you broke yours. How did you do that and do you have pics? First time ive heard of one breaking!
All i have is a spare l series bashplate to put on as a temp job haha.

They have a reputation for cracking, mine did & several others. They are made out of cast alloy, not a good idea for something that needs to handle impacts from rocks etc :(

There is someone in Vic who makes excellent plate alloy sump guards, PM me if you want & I can give you his number :iconwink:

Gee, well ive seen one be abused and its still in one peice haha. Nonetheless, didnt know this was the case!

Pm sent!

Ah yea I spent about two weeks in Dunsborough all up! As for the bash plates the subaxtreme one may hold up ok for sand driving however mine did break into three pieces.

They alloy ones are great.

Car looks great, and nice pics of the scenery too, mate.

From my Batphone

Yesterday I was ran off the road by a truck on eastlink. The truck was merging left and didn't see a taxi (which he hit). The driver panicked and swerved into my lane. Suby is getting assesed today :( I think chances of writing it off are 50% :( Shattered.
