Nachaluva's Foz

Two years ago I got a heartbreaking call my brother in law had suddenly died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). He was a strong, healthy, fit man. They found him slumped over the table at work...apparently he was dead before he even hit the table, so at least he didn’t suffer at all.

My sister offered me his car, so I bought it. It was their 3rd Subie but my 1st.

I soon got tired of the poor lights so set out on my 1st mod...a headlight wiring upgrade & upgraded H4 bulbs. I soon ran into problems which is how I came upon AuSubaru while researching the wiring.

After much work & lots of help, esp from Gannon, my 1st mod was finished:
Headlights Wiring Upgrade - ORS

My 1st trip offroad was soon after to picturesque & historic Walhalla:

I discovered my suspension was completely shot, springs sagging & strut bouncing. With help from the forum I decided on raised King springs & new KYB struts. Very happy with the much improved handling & increased clearance, but I wish so much I had got the gen2 rear struts (SG)

I added Whiteline KCA414 Camber bolts which gave me neg camber on the rear but the best I could get the front was neutral.

A SubaXtreme sumpguard was next. I guess it did its job of protecting the sump but I found it very brittle & was soon falling apart

A Crossbred guard soon replaced it!

Its very smooth. Have to wait to see how it handles in the wet but I'm sure it will be well behaved. The big test will be when I go offroad next...

As soon as you can, take a video of a diagonal spin, I'd like to see how it works on the terrain :iconwink:

Just remember the more slippery the diff oil is to keep the LSD quiet the less effective it actually is as an LSD. It's a fine trade off with LSD oil. That said redline is a good brand.

Gidday NL

I have followed all this with considerable interest. Well done. Very nice photos, too.

It will be interesting to see how it all works in practice. It should be better than the vLSD in my SG.

As for being able to tell that the car has a highly effective LSD in the back, well ...
None of the Jaguars, Astons, Ferraris, etc that I have driven (albeit a very long time ago) gave any indication that they had highly effective LSDs in the back (not sure if the Jensen Interceptor ff had one in the front or not ... ).
I suspect that if one can tell from primary symptoms when driving the car, it is not adjusted/configured very well. I may well be wrong, but that's been my experience.

I also note that the vLSD in mine doesn't give any signs of its being there - until things come a bit unstuck at the back ... Then it feels quite different from the way my Impreza felt in the same sort of situation - sort of more "grabby".

Well, the mods havent stopped

It took a while but I eventually found a set of 4 plus set of 5 Audi forged 15" alloys with +38 offset (steelies are +48 offset). Also 4 centre caps.

I then had to get hubcentric rings to locate the wheel properly on the hub centre:

The Audis use a ball seat wheel nut (Subie uses cone) but a different thread, so I got custom nuts from the States:

Got my Kuhmo Venturer 215/75/15 muddies fitted:

I had my Geolanders AT-s fitted to the other set of Audi rims, removed the Audi logo from the centre caps & applied carbon vinyl wrap in a silver colour.

The Kuhmos wouldn't fit on the rear due to low spring perches & horrible SF Foz offset, so I got some bolt on wheel spacers:

They also help dramatically with the handling

Great pics Nachaluva. Have you become a Luva of the Mods so you can get to remote spots so you can Luv the Nacha? :lildevil: ...

Best regards,

Very nice. I think it looks a lot better with the extra spacing. Now just need a pic with the Kumhos on. Well that and to test them out....

:woohoo:
Very nice there Nacha! The wider setup looks a lot better. It's gonna be badass with the Kumhos:cool:
I'm looking at AF Racings website for the spacers, can ya link us?:lildevil:

Looks good Nachaluva...another beast on the forum :lildevil:

Pretty sweet build there Nach! The thing I love about this site is how someone else's end result is motivation for other people to tackle little projects. Now I am motivated to buy my lift blocks and install them (DIY I think).

Now I only wish I could weld as well as you so I can make exhaust sliders.

By the way - is it Oswina as in "Oz Winner" or is she "Oswina" as in Edwina from Oz?

Give the Luva of the Nacha a break! Where would you all be with new "stuff" on your Subarus????? He's done the R & D, done the hard yards & fitted... Now he's enjoying the fruits of his labour!
Best regards

Looking good mate! Follow me and do an engine swap next :P Best thing you'll ever do haha
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the cars performance once you fit the muddies!
When you gonna fit your bullbar?

Makes a huge difference! If I can find someone to make steering extensions I'll be able to make my own lift kits, complete with ALL the little bits you need that others dont supply! :shake:

Thanks. My last trip I'm sure it helped when I was sliding backwards & bumped across a few deep ruts. I have a dent in the top of the resonator but no other damage. The biggest problem is the exhaust catching on things & twisting which hopefully the slider will prevent.

By the way - is it Oswina as in "Oz Winner" or is she "Oswina" as in Edwina from Oz?
It was originally Oswald (no plate is OSW...) but then I decided she was a girl :rotfl:

Hell Yeah! Also so I dont destroy her while I'm doing it lol
