Bigcat's Journal

Hi guys,

Been lurking on here for a while so finally decided to register seeing as there is such good info on here :)

I'm on my second XT, this one being owned since 08. It was lowered when I bought it but I found it to scrape a fair bit on the 19's so I raised it back to stock. Then treated it to a 3inch turbo back and a Verso tune, a resinatorectomy and a K&N. It knocks out 230hp at all four wheels, which is fine for me. The rims are 19x8 HP designs in shadow chrome, plastidipped matt black. I really like them in black so I'll get them repainted/powder coated satin black soon.

Just last weekend we went up to Lancelin and Wedge for a couple of days. Got the Foz up on the dunes and on the beach for a blast. Those 245/40/19 tyres aren't really suitable for offroad and I think my stockie suspension is probably dead after 250K kilometres so I'm looking at a spare set of rims with General or BFG ATs and perhaps a 35mm Kings/KYB lift. Also got a custom light bar/skid plate on the cards similar to Rally Innovations that I want fabricated and a re-tint.

Nice to be here anyway! Great site :)

I would check exactly which springs they put in the front...I reckon they ordered the wrong ones!

I think you're right, although I don't blame Malaga Springs, I think Dobinsons may have sent the wrong part number. Just sent a polite email to Dobinsons with this photo to ask their opinion. Fingers crossed they can sort it because I'm not too overjoyed by the way it sits to be honest.

Gidday BC

A warm, if belated, :welcome: to the ORS mate.

If you feel that you have got $15 worth out of the site (I had within a couple of weeks of becoming a member), consider becoming a contributing member. It costs a mere US$15 p.a., and helps keep the site afloat financially.

G'day again BC

Thanks for that. It helps to keep the bandicoots that power the search engine fed ...

Still haven't heard back from Dobinsons yet but I'm sure they'll fix it.

Incidentally, those powder coated stockies will be for sale in about a week if anyone is interested. I just placed an order from the States for a set of these:

enkei_edr9_blk_ci3_l.jpg

Enkei EDR9 16x7 +38 offset. Should fill up the arches a little nicer and stop the scrape on the left front. 4mm more clearance on the inside and 16mm further out on the outside.

That doesn't look right to me either Bigcat.

I hope everything works out for you when you hear back from Dobinsons :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Yes they were very apologetic. Glad its getting sorted though, I was beginning to stress a little.

This also cheered me up today ;)

Test fired it last night and was amazed at how bright it is!

Nice looking wheel did ya order those from TireRack?

Well good news and bad news today. The good news is i got my springs sorted at last. Looks like they were labelled incorrectly at the factory! The car looks more or less level now and I'm well chuffed with it. I'll grab some pics soon, just too dark by the time i got home.

Bad news is the wheels I ordered are out of stock and will be for a while, so I had to cancel my order. :( Oh and I caught the flu off my little boy. Awesome! :monkeydance:

Still not sure about the 215/70/16 clearance issue though. Even lifted, the tyres are almost touching the inner edge of the mudflap. Looking at it perhaps a lower offset might rub a fair bit.

Well I've been doing a bit of research today. Found out that wheel/tyres shops are pretty much clueless when trying to ascertain whether or not a lower offset wheel would rub on the arches, even when staring at them. Instead, i went home full of flu and spent a whole $5 on a stack of large washers. Cut a bit out of the inner arches and flaps, then and hammered back a bit of metal and coated it in bitumen paint. Bolted the wheels back on with washers equivalent to a 10mm spacer and they fitted perfectly with no rubbing and looked heaps better. I think there's plenty more room for a +38 or even +35. (yeah i know about the bearings) Now it's time to find some nice rims again!:monkeydance:

Incidentally, my 19s are for sale on Ozfoz and here if anyone is interested: https://www.gumtree.com.au/m-my-ad.html?adId=1020327013
Got my stock springs on there too.

Managed to grab a quick crappy phone pic of how its looking now with raised springs finally fitted in the front:

Pretty happy with that!

And it was great to catch up with Stilson and Taza today down on Reid Hwy. Hope you guys get some use out of those struts :)

(lol at the towtruck)
