Now, about centre caps for these....

I found two options on the Toronto Subaru Club forum, both in this thread:

The other is really my kind of solution: cheap and effective...

It involves getting some of these 2 inch knockout closures which are used in electrical work:

Tarting them up by either painting them or using some sort of wrap on them. This example uses carbon fibre wrap:

The fitting them to the wheel:

Sounds pretty simple and inexpensive.

Ok, so in Canada these things are called Knockout closures. really! are they called here? anyone got a clue? I've done all sorts of internet searches, but so far no luck.
 
If you can't find them, let me know, I can most likely swing by Home Depot and grab a bunch for you guys :)

In other news, the ball seat conversion spacers arrived from Mr Lugnut today.

$1.30 each, plus postage of $12.00. they came in an express post bag.

They are referred to as a "VW Radius Washer".

Hub centric rings arrived today from Hong Kong from ebay seller.

Postage was very quick and packaging very good for such delicate little items.

Can't wait to see how they fit.

these address the different centre bore size between the audi rim and the subaru rim.

the big question now is patience:

I have a trip planned for the long weekend, and could get these rims fitted before then, BUT I would also like them clean! there is an unholy amount of brake dust buildup in the inner side of the rims. I am told that this is because German brake pads cause a high amount of build up. It is really terrible to try and clean off.

I have used standard wheel cleaner: not much use. Degreaser: filthy job and you have to scrub and scrub. Am now using Iron x, which seems more effective but will still take a couple of hours to get each rim clean.

Alternatively, I could just put em on and clan em up one at a time another day...

Havent been to Bunnings yet (Middys might also be an idea). Did a search for plastic grommet 2", try calling these:

Ask if they have a plastic grommet without the cutout...

Bloody awesome.

I am not after a 5th because I have one. But I am after a 6th: I carry two spares. Happy to pay $75 to premanently reduce the weight of the car by about 5 kg. It means I could carry 2 slabs of 500ml cans of beer without adding any weight! :lildevil:
 
Geez, that's cheap!!

I paid $190 at Mordialloc Wreckers for one 2006 Forester 16" bare alloy rim to match those on the car.
