Greasy_Rocks

So far the Forester has done 99% of what I've asked and has shed only a few bits and pieces. It's finally time to do some real mods and get prepared for alot of seat/woods time this Spring though.:monkeydance:

I started with a stock '99 w/ 140,000 miles, stock except for the full coverage hail damage.

Since then we've,
Changed all the fluids and filters.
Full tune up.
Replaced the steering rack.
Added the basket and tinted the glass.
Drove the **** out of it and replaced that shine with redneck pinstripin'.

Lift, springs, struts and tires are at the top of the list.

Apparently I was overly concerned, awd is working with no odd noises!
That is good news

I'd still be keeping a close ear & eye on it though just in case it happens to come back. Hopefully it won't & it's happy free driving

The morning after.

Alright, the Foz got enough quick changes to make a huge difference to the total package. This may turn out to be my favorite dd ever.:monkeydance:
I had just enough time to hit some gravel and dirt yesterday after getting the tires on, there's no comparison...

The springs, struts and spacers were installed together last week. They provided the much needed replacement for the stock parts that were worn out and mushy. Lift, about 1 3/4", and lack of body roll were a nice benefit too. The suspension is noticeably stiffer, but no where near as harsh as I feared and no worries of slamming the struts on shot bump stops. There weren't any on the rear! The Forry maintained alot of that car feel, albeit a new car. I'm amazed at how much stiffer the Forester felt, corner to corner, at this point. You can get to that teeter totter sensation alot easier than with the worn out struts/springs.

Next the new Grabbers were mounted. I need to get another measurement of ground clearance. Wow what a difference in the way it drives. The 1st thing I noticed is a slower take off and an increase in stopping distance, not a problem, I plan to be crawlin' not racing. The car feel gave way to a mix of miniature 4wd 'Yota and comfy car. I like it!
Simply, now it feels like a capable off road toy, a platform for fun.:discomonkey:

^ It sure is :raz:

And I know how/what you mean too Gravel_Rocks.
I got (& still have) the same feeling when I had the (vertually) same work done on my Forry :woohoo:

Happy Happy

Great result!

Thanks Kevin! I'm not sure how I could be any more satisfied.

:ebiggrin:I'm thinking my Forester is now alot more capable than I expected it to be.

Excellent!!! Great to hear. And now, inspiration to get, at least, my struts changed. They are getting worse.

Carl, get 'er done, we've got trails to hit near you....soon. :raspberry: If you need any help doing the swap, let me know, have spring compressor and will travel! I was gonna give ya my old struts but they are beyond shot.

Lets ride!

Bumper build

We just finished replacing the stock Forester bumper with a off road worthy version.
There's 200 pics rolled into this video.

Nice video, nice bumper build up ! Why is the center section larger, space for a winch ?

Thanks.

Maybe....
Chris tried to get me to do a winch the entire time we were building it. If I can sell this bumper, I'd do another one, with a winch before we spray it with bedliner.

Any mounting points for additionnal lightning on that middle section?

That looks badass! I'd love to have something like this.
