So far the Forester has done 99% of what I've asked and has shed only a few bits and pieces. It's finally time to do some real mods and get prepared for alot of seat/woods time this Spring though.:monkeydance:

I started with a stock '99 w/ 140,000 miles, stock except for the full coverage hail damage.

Since then we've,
Changed all the fluids and filters.
Full tune up.
Replaced the steering rack.
Added the basket and tinted the glass.
Drove the **** out of it and replaced that shine with redneck pinstripin'.

Lift, springs, struts and tires are at the top of the list.

Yep, most of the parts came from Paul. And adding another .25" to the rear would set me rite probably.
Luckily my son and I were able to do the install and get the alignment the next day. I'm waiting on the tires and a fender liner now.
Timing is a *****. Most of the times that you're counting on someone else to help you beat a deadline, you'll end up short.

Yeah! The reasonable thing to do would be to squeeze another 1500 miles out of my aging tires, and wait until after I get back to install the lift, new brakes, and new wheels. But then I won't get to test the new setup in the snow they got up there. :(

May as well use up the old tires and at least you'll be guaranteed to be driving your Forester on the trip.

Looks good GR

I have Kings on my SF Foz & found the rear still sits low. I'll soon be installing a 2" body lift with an additional 1" in the rear to make it sit flat or even a little arse-up lol :lildevil:

I regret not getting SG rear struts but glad to hear the SF struts have more travel...

Thanks Nach!:monkeydance:
Sounds like you've got serious plans, I'll be following along. Go a little donkey up, give it that '70s Chevelle look.
I'd like to see a comprehensive test of SG and SF struts and the pros/cons of 215/65-16, 215/70-16 and 205/70-15 tires.

I don't understand how a person in business, trying to make a living, doesn't help their customer to the fullest. If I screwed with this stuff everyday, I'd like to think that I'd know exactly which parts it'll take to make a car suit the customer. And SELL more stuff!!!

Broke it...

Uhhhmm, I think I just broke somethin'. There was a big bang, now there's no rwd anymore. The tree we were pulling might have been a little heavier than i thought.:lildevil:

Oh no! The lil Subies may be able to go a lot more places than most think but they're not stump pullers lol :(

Interesting note, a local Subie gearbox builder has said best not to do snatches in reverse as the reverse gear isnt too strong...I think you've found another weakness. Rear CV? Hopefully nothing too bad

That does sound like bad news!

That doesn't sound good at all. I hope it's nothing major.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Ckeck out the vid, really doesn't seem like there was much reason to break something.? Don't miss the racket at :14 and :40. Kind of sounds like crapped out cvs. I'm not sure what broke yet, it looks like the rr wheels are pulling very little. We should figure it out today.

Awd works!

Apparently I was overly concerned, awd is working with no odd noises!
Once I got to work, climbed a hill with my son watching, its easy to see the rears are pulling. I'm thinkin' the front cvs were adapting to their new angle. ?

Nice to see the Grabbers are finally on!

Glad to hear the noises may not have been so serious after all too. Cautionary tale about the potential side effects of our tinkering, or not. :)

Happy Happy

Serious business

Haha,I'm glad they're on too, in a big way!!
There seems to be enough clearance for the 215/65-16 Grabbers and SF struts to work without any spacers, hammers or much voodoo. WooHoo!

Yes, thankfully the noises/thumps turned out not to be as terminal as I thought. Trail time will be the test though. But yea, they were probably a symptom of the tinkering. The cvs are making a good bit more chatter now than before I started skidding with the Foz.

More better pics in a few too...
