While i was enjoying myself down in Tathra on my last holiday i put a sign up in the local Post Office to see if i could find a flat or old farm house to rent and today i got a call from a bloke who has converted his garage/workshop into a granny flat and is looking for a tenant. Rent is resonable at $134 p/w plus any real estate fees so probably $150 p/w.
free standing,carport,2 bedrooms and room for my tinny.
I've got until Sunday night to think about it and might well take up the offer.
I was going to go to Tuross Heads but the rent for this place seems very reasonable. Apparently up on the hill with ocean views so sounds good.
uuummmmm...what to do...fresh fish every day...the smell of the sea....not many people....a bit cold in winter.....fishing 7 days a week...peace and quiet...uuuummmmm:ebiggrin:

Sounds good to me :raz:

So I'll 2nd what Kevin said .......... What are you waiting for

Regards
Mr Turbo

I'm still comitted to paying rent up here until the end of june. That's the deal i did with the kids but it is not the reason i wouldn't move....no different to paying at a campground....i still need to ask a few questions and hope to get a pic or two of the set up.
I'll ring him tonight.

Couldn't agree more with you, Silver. Sounds terrific, but do your due diligence.

No point getting there only to find it's a hole ...

I spoke to the people last night. They sound nice, retired couple, he must have been a tradie i think as he still does odd carpentary jobs and they ASSURE me there are no barking dogs around  and the place is in good condition. They also both like fishing.
They are not computer savy and are trying to organise their daughter to send me pics.
I have, at the moment, told them i will take it and turn up down there on the 18th Feb.
I was going to go to Tuross Heads in early June anyway so if it doesn't work i can always rack off but at least it means i am away from the hell hole of the Gold Coast:ebiggrin::ebiggrin::ebiggrin::ebiggrin::lol::lol::quitar::bananatoast::banana::bananapartyhat::woohoo::raspberry::raspberry:
Soooo....at the moment i will leave here on the 28th and head to South West Rocks for a week or so and off to Sydney and then arrive at my new home to try and terrorise the poor Bega River flathead again. It's not all bad really:lol:

Is there WiFi broadband access there?
Just a thought ...
Us Internet junkies need our fix .

As a worst case scenario, I can always tether my laptop via my Blackberry if there is phone coverage in an area.

The mobile internet and phone reception was pretty poor down in the van park when i was there, and i am with Telstra, but this place could be better as i am up on a hill but the other day i got this..
https://www.telcoantennas.com.au/site/CD2195
with the patch leads for my phone and 4G modem so it should be OK.
I rigged it up at home on the computer and it made no difference so i rang the guy and he said that that would be correct as the aerial needs to have a good signal path to be effective...makes sense i guess. He was a bit hard to deal with on the phone and needs to work on his communication skills but the delivery time was fantastic and the price for the leads was pretty good.
I got the aerial of a Fonezone shop on the spur of the moment when i saw them hanging up. Need to be careful here as they wanted $170 but i ended up paying $119 after i harrassed them. Pretty much the same as the other once you added in postage.
The fellow from Telcoantennas told me it was only a 3G aerial but the blurd in the link clearly states it is OK for telstra 4G but that does not matter to me as it will be a long time before Tathra gets 4G i reckon.

Hey Silver

That's only 600 kms from where I live.

Do you feel safe :poke: :rotfl:?

That's less than a day's drive, even for me. I might come and visit, LOL!
Some nice looking forests and NPs around that area.

I have always enjoyed this forum and ANYONE who is passing by will be welcome.....assuming things go according to plan.
Also...i have a 54lb Jarvis marine bow mount electric trolling motor for sale...just about to post as i needed to check it worked...which it does.

That's very kind of you, mate. It is a very nice forum, and nice folks on it.
Due in no small part to the daily efforts of Richard, Kevin, Carl and Mr T - Thanks, fellas.

Glad that your trolling motor works OK. I have my 3 hp Evinrude 2 cylinder OB to check out. I have owned it since I was about 14 y.o. (over 50 years ...). If it works, I have promised to give it to my nephew.

I have just managed to swim 24 laps of our pool - it is a very short pool, so not very far really: a bit under 1/4 km. However, far more than I have been able to do since I hurt my shoulder last year.

woohoo Silver, congrats on your new digs, I hope that they are an improvement on the GC. Was down there today, and my god... the traffic! Can you tell me a little about your electric motor? Not entirely sure yet whether to go for an electric or a small petrol motor for our tiny punt. Probably the most burningest question I would have is if you know how many hours travel you get from a fully charged battery. Ta eva so :-)

Once you have used an electric you will wonder why you didn't have one before!!!
Need a decent battery eg a 100ampAGM but generally you use an outboard to get where you are going and then switch to the electric.
Probably best to check out the jarvis marine website to get some details. This is a saltwater 54lb thrust one.(Update on motor...sold)

OK. I have left the Gold Coast, almost never to return, except to catch up with the kids.
I am at my mates place at South West Rocks for a week or two and then to Sydney and arrive at Tathra on the 18th ready to move in and then go fishing.
Figured it doesn't really matter if it doesn't work as i will just move again.
I am now used to moving and don't really own much...tent,fridge,fishing stuff, a few clothes, computer etc.
Even on the Gold Coast with the kids i still slept on my Thermorest self inflating matteress.
I can't afford to collect 'stuff' because of my lifestyle, but it is interesting to see what you can do without.
I don't really miss not having a collection of things at all.

Gidday Silver

Wishing you all the very best with your move, and new digs, mate.

Thanks.
The owners seem good. I have seen pics of the flat and it is not too bad. Just needs a bit of a tidy up. They must be elderly as the fellow told me they have lived there for 60 years. The Bega river 60 years ago?? That would have been something to see. The fishing would have been fantastic!! There is under cover parking for my Subie and plenty of backyard for my boat.
Both of them fish and have a small tiny.
Best bit....the flat has a front porch with ocean views. I can see out to sea and north right up to the bridge. I only need to look out the window to check fishing conditions:lol:.
Pretty good really for $135pw.
Hoping it all works out.

That sounds fantastic, Silver! I am envious of the simple, oceanfront setup, with no worries about worldly possessions other than fishing gear. Hope it works out as planned!

Arrive in Tathra tomorrow morning (Mon). Thow some stuff out of the car and boat, into Bega to do some shopping etc and all going well, fishing on Tues and wed and thur .....
Flathead fillets in Sydney $37.99kg. I remember when people were not that interested in eating them.
So...i'll be eating $100 worth of fish a week...aaaarrrr...i must be rich!!!
