Air Conditioning Tips

Another thing, if your aircon doesnt seem to work so well when you are at lights or stopped and works well on the highway it would pay to check the thermo fans :iconwink:

My aircon was blowing warm/cold/warm/cold but never actually getting cold enough. Found it was a worn AC clutch plate not fully engaging. But instead of buying a whole new Zexel compressor like the dealer said was the only way, I adjusted the clutch clearance by removing one of the 3 spacer shims on the clutch shaft and all was good to go.

Excellent step by step here and takes an easy hour to do without removing any major components!

Got my radiator re-tanked and the dude left out the foam liners between the evaporator and radiator. This means when stopped and the fans blow air does not get forced sucked through the evaporator making it less cold. Check you foam separators first, if missing then that's your problem.

^ I'd say they would be at a guess & I can't see why they would differ.

If you're not sure, just take your old one out & measure it. Then compare that size to the one you're ordering :iconwink:
Thats what I did before I ordered mine :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

HyChill hydrocarbon based refrigerants

Gidday Folks

If thinking about re-gassing, or your air-conditioning system needs it, consider this stuff -

HyChill refrigerant, which apparently works far better with systems that were originally designed for R12 refrigerant than does R134a.

It also happens to work better than R134a in systems that are designed for R134a ... Like about 30% better!! Lookie here:

^ Seen a few scary and expensive situations at work with HyChill. Wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. I highly wouldn't recommend it!

Currently R134A has been around for 20 odd years in the automotive industry and works completely fine given your air conditioning system is healthy so I trust that.

I'm looking into retro-fitting A/C into the brumby...

Couldn't get hold of the Subaru evaporator cleaner: seems it never came to Oz.

Tried to get rid of the musty / muddy smell that came every time I turned on the AC: was told to run it hot to kill the bacteria / fungus, but this didn't work. Opened up the spot where the cabin air filter goes, and gave the evaporator a thorough steam clean. Got a can of Glen 20, sprayed the evaporator, and the air intake (outside under the windscreen) with the fan running: did this in each air flow position.

AC now much cleaner smelling, and seems to blow cooler air after the clean up.
