As to your tyres. Insurance companies and police can get pretty sniffy about tyres on ADR vehicles that are out of spec. Your insurer is the one to be really worried about. If their assessor finds out of spec tyres fitted to your car after a prang, they will void your insurance of your own vehicle; but much more importantly, they will also not cover damage to the other parties car either (assuming you are at fault, wholly or partially.
This could ruin you financially if the other car is an expensive one.
So check with your insurer before committing to anything other than standard size tyres/rims for your model.
I look forward to seeing some pics of your new baby ...
guys off topic, and I will start a new topic if this is serious. (i hope its not but fear it is)
Just been doing my first proper drive around (other than purchase test drive) and I hear a whining type sound in 4th gear at around 60km/h 2100 RPM only when accelerator is depressed. It is most loud then.
Listening more closely and at certain higher speeds in 3rd 4th and slightly in 5th you can hear a sound under acceleration.
Its not super loud but its definitely there
My immediate fear is major $$$ for gear box or drive line issues.
I have a good mechanic mate who is gonna completely service and go over the car tomoro, obviously I'll get his opinion but want to ask any other scooby owners for their opinons?
Does this sound all over and I'll have to buy a new G.B. or drive line components totally thousands?
Centre diff whining. No big deal, it'll just whine. Mine did for over 50,000km of driving, didn't get worse or better(a little after putting good oil or smurfs blood in). Until I blew the gearbox up (my fault, the centre diff was still going strong though). It only used to do it between 55-85km/hr and then louder past 130km/hr.
You could try changing the oil... :iconwink:
Congrats on the purchase mate, if your keen to come out on a trip with us sometime to Two Rocks, Wedge, Lanno, the pines or somewhere send me a PM so I know your interested. There's a few of us who head out often too
I have a mate who took his Soob back to stock and has 5x near new(done less than 5000km) Geolander AT-S on a set of 16" Outback alloy wheels who wants to get rid of them if your interested. They are in 215/70R16 size and he has the 5 year warranty card for them. He'd get rid of them cheap too
Edit: Congrats on the purchase, can't wait to see pics
Ok update on that noise:
If people experience that whirring type sound DONT PANIC
Close inspection revealed it was simply the exhaust snow shield cover. My Mech mate has advised me that is common certain cars. You can either have a play with the clips that hold it on or completely remove it if you're not near snow!
