Taza's Blowing Black Smoke

Well I put the Moreys Oil Stabilizer in. It has made a huge difference but the car still blows some smoke.
I think I will be selling it for a 04 xt auto..

I've done about 200km with the oil stabilizer in, only blows smoke when you rev it high and isn't really burning much now. I can atleast make it to the shops without having to top it up
Do you think another bottle is too much in the one motor?

I went and test drove an 04 XT Auto today. It was a family car, one lady owner(~45yrs old and a hoon ), had some minor mods. Dark tint, tune and 3" exhaust, tow bar, always garaged, mint condition, fully white and full service history. Only $13,000 too. I think I'd go an auto over manual as I think I'd break a manual gearbox in one while trying to do something stupid. Plus it was really smooth and didn't lack any power like I was expecting :poke:
Took it for a spin and WOW was it nice! Super fast, even in the dry taking off from the light it had grip issues  Not just the power but it was quiet to drive on the freeway (unlike my noisy tyres on my foz) and very comfortable. If I got one though I would not be offroading it, probably keep it stock'ish :iconwink:

The XT you took for a spin today sounds good.
However, is it the 1st or 2nd series for that shape ?
If I recall (& I could be wrong) the 1st series one's had some head gasket issues :iconwink: Where as the 2nd series one's didn't.
Just something to consider if you do decide to get it :)

  :eviltoyou:

*Cough* bull**** *Cough*

Maybe a little, not hardcore like I have with my current one. It would rip it up so good though :lildevil:

It's the same Series as yours 1st. I couldn't afford a 2nd series plus I reckon the 1st looks better in my opinion :iconwink:

Well I don't want another car where I have to go through 3 engines, 2 gearboxes etc... within 3 years of owning it. If I did I wouldn't go hard like I do now, right now in my Forester I will pretty much try and tackle anything :iconwink:

P.S. Mr T, love your new profile pic mate ;)

Would not be offroading in it, why?

As per text above.

OMG I want it :lildevil:

I may not have explained it as clear as I'd hope to.
When I say that, mine is what I would call the 2nd series with that shape.
Where as Kevin's is what I would call the 1st series.
Two ways to tell the difference is that mine (2) does not have the ABS badge on the plastic panel between the rear side window & the fixed window for the boot / wagon.
I also believe the air intake on the 1st one is facing forward where as on mine it's not.

P.S. Mr T, love your new profile pic mate ;)
Thanks mate :)
Unfortunately there is a some what sad reason behind me changing it

Mr Turbo

Oh Mr T it's the 2nd Series, I did notice some of the changes like the steering wheel too has buttons on it. While the 1st Series doesn't.

Hope everything's alright Mr T!

I thought it might have been after seeing the pic :)

It does look to be in good condition.
How many km's are there on the clock ?

Regards
Mr Turbo

Only 120,000km. It only has one car park ding on the whole car :surprised: No other scratch or marking anywhere on it. Not even a touch of rust under it either, always been garaged! How many km does yours have?

After taking my Forester out, it's barely blowing any smoke after putting in the Morey's Oil Stabilizer. I used 1L of it, it's not burning much now either. However this is only a temp fix for the car.

Geez that is low, almost as low as mine :iconwink:

Pity I can't say mine's in as good as a condition as that one is

Mr Turbo

It might take me a while to catch up to you in kilometers
Just make sure the timing belt is up to date, even though it is meant to be done every 100k it also is meant to be 4 yearly, which ever comes first. If you do it yourself remember it is DOHC so it's a horrible job :lildevil:

Could this have anything to do with it?? My other motor did this, actually most EJ motors do with over 100,000km but not this bad..

The spark plug well was full of oil, there is oil on my tools and even on the thread of the spark plug.

What about this too.. it' certainly leaking through the seals  :(

That just looks like the seals are buggered, between the rocker cover and the spark plug tube the seal goes hard and oil leaks into the spark plug tube, easy peasy :raz:

Hey Taz

If you do these seals, chances are you will NOT need to strip the motor down at all ...

Let's face it, if you have found a two inch hole in your petrol tank, why would you strip out all the fuel lines, filter etc? The rather obvious cause of your tank being empty was the two inch hole ...

br, RB

That oil will not enter the the combustion chamber, the spark plug seal will not let liquid through, if oil could get in then gas could get out and I can assure you that the pressure within the chamber would blow the oil in the tube all over your engine bay, the oil on your thread will just be from pulling the plug out through the pooled oil.

Well it's my worst fears. It's most likely the rings :(
Couldn't be any bigger of a job  Atleast if it has the work done on it with all new seals and a minor overall on the heads plus all new seals it should be in a 'like new' condition or not far off. I can then actually look after it and do the correct maintenance. It should then hopefully outlast the damn car :iconwink:

I am thinking though that if the heads get some minor work done maybe I should replace my cams with some slightly more aggressive ones and put on ported or polished heads  Squeeze every bit of juice out of the darn thing.

Anyone know the difference between ported or polished heads?
