G'day All,

It's been quite a while since I have made my way onto the ORS forum - been busy and whatnot - and even though this trip isn't going to be undertaken in a Subie, I thought a lot of people on here might find it of interest if I put up a thread about it.

Starting on August 6th I will be commencing a coast-to-coast trip of the United States, starting in Los Angeles and finishing up in New York City. Along the way I will be seeing and doing many adventurous things that I'm sure will be of interest to many people on here, plus it will just be fun for me to share!

Anyway, thought I might as well post this now (as much to feed my own excitement as anything else!). I look forward to sharing my adventures with you all!

Gidday Matt

Have a safe and wonderful trip, mate.

North America is a beautiful land - enjoy :).

Nah just with a mate. Yeah definitely gotta master the art of uploading photos before I go, I'm sure there will be plenty to show!

have fun!
you just reminded me to post pics of my usa trip

G'day all!

Well tomorrow I head off to the big US of A. I am currently hurriedly packing and making sure I've got everything I need... But I'm sure there will be something I remember when I'm a few thousand kilometres too far away!

I look forward to keeping you guys updated. I fly to LA tomorrow with a brief stopover in Auckland. Woo!

Safe travels and have fun!!! Stop on in and say 'hi' we're the little brick house, 2nd on the left.:iconwink:

I don't know what your budget and plans are but here are some tips which may be useful for you:
1. get a T Mobile $50 prepaid sim for your smartphone. All USA calls free plus unlimited data which comes in very useful
2. hotwire.com, kayak.com can score you nice hotels for cheap. We managed a night at the Stratosphere Las Vegas for $30.
3. carry lots of small notes for tips. The going rate is around 15% for a meal
4. a smartphone with GPS is VERY handy. Again this is where a data plan is needed and don't forget a car charger.
If you don't have a GPS programme download Navfree and the maps. It's not a perfect GPS prog but it will get you out of trouble.
5. have FUN

oh and don't eat the Vietnamese in Auckland. I ordered a pho (noodle soup) at a food court and was served a bowl of 2 min noodles for $10. USA vietnamese is awesome

Thanks for the tips lefty! I'm currently at the airport in Melbourne flying out in about half an hour. I'll definitely be looking at that SIM, that's one of the first things I was planning on doing when i get there. Unlimited data would definitely be verrrry useful.

Gday everyone!

Greetings from las Vegas. We arrived here two days ago after spending six days in los Angeles. So far the weather has been unbelievably hot, but that's the way I like it! LA was a lot of fun but is a very noisy city, got barely a nights worth of sleep. I will post a more detailed update hopefully soon, but I'm still updating from my phone so its a bit of a pain. Next stop is grand canyon village!

Great to hear that you're enjoying yourself & the weather gods are being kind to you :)
Enjoy the Grand Canyon mate :raz:

Regards
Mr Turbo
