Taza's Forester engine options

Taza's car = race car ;)

It so isn't and I finally realise that.

After a new set of spark plugs that aren't covered in oil and crap it now runs abit better. Fuel economy has gone out the window with it using 15+l to the 100km in all situations...
Comeon RSR, hurry up and get back to Perth. I want my EJ25 built

Hi taza, are you ready with the 2,5 conversion. How does it drive?

It isn't complete yet he just managed to get the dual-mass flywheel off the block yesterday (the stupid bolts they use for it were extremely tight and rounded out).
The block now needs to be split then sent off for honing out the cylinders and a clean up.

Still not much progress on the engine being built :( I just don't have enough time!
Been looking into tunes abit, was considering a raptor supercharger kit but I think I'll leave it(Especially at 5k for one!)
I think I am going to go with Ecutek. The power I'd be looking is around 140Kw at the crank and 250-260Nm of torque at around 3000rpm and it would increase torque over the whole rev range, specifically down low
My current EJ20 has around 70-75Kw at the crank and 140-150Nm of torque with my Forester weighing 1500kg will all it's mods and accessories(had the car weighed).
So I will be doubling my power to weight ratio :woohoo: Still slightly less power to a EZ30 H6 but still have enough :raspberry:
The guys at the tuning place in Perth reckon I should return similar fuel economy to that of a stock EJ25 manual. About 9-11L/100km around town and 8-9L/100km on the highway
Can't wait, should certainly have plenty of poke to get the Foz around then

Who is going to tune an Ecutec to 140kw reliably? I sold a Link to a guy with a 2.5 years ago and he only got 15kw extra....... you sure you'll see 140kw????

That's what they were saying.... realistically I'd be happy with 125. Stock it has 115Kw.
What do you mean by a 'Link'?

Either way I need to get a tune so the ECU will supply more fuel for the bigger block as I'm using the EJ20 computer, wiring and manifold.

EcuTek dyno tunes are quite good they can get a lot out of an engine. That combined with lightweight pulley, manifold spacer and exhaust i think 140kw should be achievable.

Which heads are you using Taza?

EJ25.

I spoke to Ecutek's agent in Sydney & they said its more for turbod engines & not NA engines as there wouldnt be much to gain

Before you go further I'd talk to some of their other agents to get another opinion...

^^^^ Exactly, the Link is made by Possum Bourne Motorsport in NZ, similar type of thing to Ecutec, I have a stand alone Link sitting here off a Bug Eye WRX, $320 if you can use it.

The other on I sold was off a 98 WRX.

I'm not doing it so much for the power, more because if I run the EJ25 with EJ20 computer it will starve the motor of fuel and obviously kill it. That's the last thing I want to happen!
With an ecutek tune and 1 dyno run I'd be looking at around $700. D_Gen, are the Link's tuneable? Plug and play or spliced in. I was aware that my ECU was the same as a WRX of the same year just tuned differently but I don't know how true that is.

Any power gain and increase in fuel economy over a stock EJ25 Outback(99-03) I'd take as a bonus.
After driving a few EJ25 Foresters and Outbacks I will have enough power to get around from A-B and heaps for offroad with having to rev the ring out if it. Next time though I'll be going turbo.

tuners are getting excellent gains out of the new FB25 n/a motors on ozfoz. i can't see why it wouldn't be similar for the ej25?

Hey, yeah the Link is totally tunable as it completely replaces the guts of your computer but you'd need the same type of pin/plug set up and I'm not sure if it's compatible with n/a's.

Ah well I'll keep looking into my options. RSR will be building my EJ25 in 3 weeks time when he is back from working offshore.

The Foz really needs it, Im only getting 230km to a tank, she's still missing and now there is a decent sounding knock... Pretty strong engine to run on low to almost no oil for 15,000km :P

Taza, you just need to blow the forry up and get something that will take your thrashing!
I think this will do....

I wouldn't mind one of them :quitar::eviltoyou: :quitar:
Just one question..... Does it come in silver at all ?????

Regards
Mr Turbo

^ Yeah haha

Going to get my foz weighed once the new motor is in and rear bar on. I'm hopping to keep it's weight with mods under 1500kg...
When I got it weighed back in Jan it was almost 1700kg but there was a heap of crap in the car(including 2 lots of motor heads and a engine..)
