Gidday Folks

Guess I should start a journal. Seems a goodly system of keeping this stuff organised ... :poke: .

Anyway, I have fitted the OEM roof bars and Rola basket to Roo2 in the last couple of days.

Took it for a spin into town today on the Nepean Highway.

From about 70 km/h, it started to purr.

By about 80 km/h, the purr had become a more of a roar ... :( :(.

This will drive me NUTS, in short order ... Fortunately, it is my intention to fit the basket to the lid on my rebuilt trailer, where it should be out of the wind, and the noise should be well behind me ....

Will keep you posted about all this ... :iconwink: ;) :raspberry:

Good, got the timing belt kit, clutch kit coming this week plus lots of genuine bits.

When you recover a bit, get up some pics :iconwink:

Good to hear.

Don't wish too hard for the photos. I think I've taken about 80-100 so far ... ;)

Please remember to measure the weight of the stuff you took off.

I posted it upthread (it's on the next page back, IIRC) .

The OEM reo bar, 'padding' and bumper weigh about 12 Kgs in total. The SubaXtreme bar and bumper weighs about 33 Kgs. The light bar and aerial will add another 3.5 Kgs to this.

It concerns me that duct tape sticks so well that it might rip the haamertone off the bar if I do ever have to replace it. The hammertone coating is almost like a plasticised/dipped coating, and peels off where damaged.

Painting the back of the outer hoops will be easy. Drop sheet over the bonnet and through the bar, with a couple of strips of masking tape and paper. Would you believe that the parking lights are as much a problem as the low beam lights? They are!

Beautiful bar thanks, mate ... . Very nice "delivery man" too . Great to meet up, even if just for a quick coffee. Hope the gearbox was no trouble, and eventually serves you well. I reckon you have set up your OB very well so far. It looks really good.

The light bar was delivered today ....

Spent the rest of the afternoon working out and modifying the somewhat cryptic wiring diagram, for want of a better description.

Posted the modified diagram on the light bar thread. Hopefully correct ... :iconwink:.

[EDIT]

Light bar fitting and electrical shennanigans are here:

The more or less final result was this:

The street at ISO 12,800, f/2.8 at 1/8th second ... The end of the street is around 225-250 metres away.

The lights - all at ISO 12,800, f/4.5 at 1/30th second.

What with the light bar fun and games, I have forgotten to post some photos of the process of fitting the Roo2 bar .

Maybe tomorrow, after I have finished washing RonnyRoo ...

Now, I know that some here might be surprised :snigger:, but I am going to put 1" HDPE lift blocks in Roo2 soon ... Locally made ... :poke: :iconwink: .

It will still be just on the maximum of the OEM height range for my model.

I think someone has caught the offroading mod bug :)

Not really, mate. Everything I have done or am planning is aimed at touring with the mighty tag-along on behind. The 1" lift blocks will put Roo2 almost exactly at the standard OEM upper limit for suspension height - i.e. technically not lifted at all.

So when are you going to get it really dirty !!

You mean like this?

Been there, done that ... :rotfl:.

BTW, I do need some advice and possibly help with power for the UHF, making the ciggy sockets always on, and the power run to the trailer connection. Oh, and also fitting the cargo barrier ...

The 1" blocks will just give it a nice bit of extra clearance without needing any trailing arm spacers, etc.

Yes, he has gotten muddy before, I don't think he'll ever forghet Phasmid Tr in Bunyip lol :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

When you bring it over to fit the spacers, I can help you fit the cargo barrier at the same time

^ my thinking about the relatively minimal lift exactly, NL. Should also have minimal effects on handling and general balance of the vehicle.

Thanks for the offer/s with the blocks and barrier. I am planning on using the safety capsule tie down points (rated) under the rear seat squab for the bottom anchorages, and the tailgate ones for the top.

Had the d/s dash out again today checking clearances for the UHF bracket.

AND I FINALLY managed to get the centre dash cubby out of its hole  - bloody clips ...

Now I can fit a ciggy outlet in there, and get rid of whole lots of wayward wires.

Never too late to get adventurous........
The 40mm lift and rear Kings seems to make bugger all difference to handling, balance or ride. Obviously a bit firmer but not excessively so.
Your 1 inch probably won`t be noticeable.

^ I hope not, Ate. However, I can feel the (positive) difference fitting the roo bar has made to the handling and balance.

I plan to have adventures; not become adventurous, or even worse, brave .. :rotfl:.
I did far too much of all that in my distant youth. Gave it up (mostly ... ) because I realised how dangerous it was. No desire to re-enact my misspent youth ... :poke: .

^ yup ....

You will eventually grow out of it, by and large.
I'm still waiting for it to happen ... :poke: :rotfl:

At least I stopped busting up my cars about 45 years ago ... :iconwink:

One should also never lose one's sense of childlike awe and wonder at the Universe.

Well I'd say im over adventurous, confident and risk taking! Says alot about why my foz is always ****ed. Lol

I was too mate. I did extreme whitewater kayaking & rockclimbing, had a very fast RX3 with a JDM 12A turbo conversion with Volvo 4pot brakes conversion, lightened flywheel, mandrel bent 3" exhaust with hand made, high flow muffler. I drank like a fish & was generally silly.

Now I'm a mature, responsible adult!
