That is at the santa pod drag strip near Northampton in the UK and the plates are UK too.

I have seen a number of drag vw beetles and vans there which are street legal, quickest I think I have seen did the 1/4 mile in about 11 seconds and that was a beetle.

So long as the car meets all the requirements of our MOT (annual mechanical check) and it was a registered UK road going car, then as far as I know it is street legal. There is nothing stopping you adding a crazy engine as long as it meets emissions requirements and adding sequential rally style gear boxes, except trying to get insured perhaps....

Some boy racer would get a shock at the lights against that thing huh!

If you know the right people you can get sub 10s cars registered here too. When I had my RX3 EFI turbo, the guys who did a lot of work on it had a tubbed 600HP 9sec RX3 coupe, engineered & street registered. Theres a great photo of it launching with the front wheels about 1 1/2' in the air
