Using Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner

wont it damage the o2 sensor while its going through?

No, its a Subaru product designed by Subaru for Subarus (sounds like an ad lol...I should get paid haha)

and another thing, whats stopping someone ringing up the RTA to dob me in for excessive emissions etc while its running and "smoking"

or would you recomend this gets done on a quiet road somewhere beyond the black stump?

I do mine on my driveway. In NSW, it's not so much the RTA but the EPA you have to worry about. By the time that all happens the car will be back to normal

Yeah I've wondered bout that. I'd suggest if possible do it in your backyard away from prying eyes, thats what I'll do.

i live in castle hill in sydney, is there anywhere close by i can buy this product, say repco etc.. or would i need to go to subaru direct and get a can or two?

Yep Subaru direct. Its their own product, & just like the Subaru coolant everyone raves about, its the only place you can get it.

Taza, surely you didnt drive down to Perth JUST for some SUEC & gearbox oil? ;)

So do I :)
I get a bit of smoke, but nothing major, so my neighbours don't tend worry that much :)

Like what was said above. Your nearest Subi dealer would be your best bet.
It has been made specifically for our Subi's :iconwink:

It's a product made by Bar's leaks... I called head office to find where it's sold and they said you can only get it at a subaru dealer. I bought a can from Sunspares in Yandina for $17.70. Not bad for a Tune up in a can. Still yet to run it through my L wagon yet, will update when I do.

6 x cans UCL and 6 x cans of fuel additive (Subaru brand) for $60.00 bucks on eBay.

Ordered mine Thursday- arrived this morning. Bargain.

Ordered mine

Just put through 2 more cans...LOTS of smoke lol :lildevil:

After couple of videos, so most of the smoke has gone:

Then I took it for a spin around the block & got a few funny looks lol ;)

I just posted a video in my Journal with me adding it to my L series. It wasn't the smoke show I was hoping for. I just hope it helps my 11L/100k (21mpg) from my first full tank driving it.

Used a can on the Dulagarl yesterday. Engine feels smoother somehow.

Doing Nubaru's 30k mi. service, part of that is the upper engine cleaner as well as spark plugs. I remember from my brief days in the auto repair industry that in some instances doing intake cleans that after running the cleaner through, the plugs would foul. Anyone had this experience with the Subaru upper engine cleaner??? I sure don't want to foul up the $15 a piece irridium plugs I bought.

Probably will do the UEC first anyway just to be on the safe side. Perhaps I'll pull one plug first and do a little before/after pic.

Not in my experience.

Not in my experience.

Thanks Rally!!! Reading through the thread, didn't sound like anyone had any problems, but it never hurts to check.:) The intake cleaner we used at the auto shop was some kind of machine, it worked very well, but in several instances (probably really dirty intakes) required a plug change afterwards. Still think I'll try my test, just to see.

US style Subaru Upper (aka 'Top') Engine Cleaner. Walk into the Subie dealer in the US and ask for Upper Engine Cleaner, and you get this kit.

Looks all pretty straight forward except for the bottle of Top Engine Cleaner. There is a tool with a ball valve that is supposed to go between the bottle and one of the vacuum lines. I'm either going to have to get the tool or figure out how to replicate one myself. I've also got to figure out which vacuum line, hopefully a stroll through the factory service manual will answer both those questions.

Project will hopefully commence next weekend.:)

Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner, or STEC

Sounds "teckie" lol :raz:

Interested in how it goes...

Interested in how it goes...

Well, I was hoping to see how it went this weekend. But sadly, my father in law is in the hospital and my wife had to go be with her family. I have Nubaru, but I also have the kids so I'm not going to get any vehicle maintenance time.

If an engine has gone over its UEC service once or maybe twice the car will benefit. But if has gone way too long since it was done, the UEC might do more harm than good.

What harm might this do, I dont know when mine was last done but it now has 362000km on the clock. harm scares me at these klms
