I thought I would start a thread for people to find out how to use Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner on their model car. So please people who have used it please post your model of Subie & how you used it, ie, took off the air filter, disconnected the MAP sensor & sprayed it down the throttle body or whatever. How easy you found your method, how much smoke you got lol, & most importantly...the results! lol

1992 LIBERTY AWD EJ22
used a can every 5 thousand klms
squirt half the can through the throttle body - turn key for two or three revs DONT START the car
wait a minute then spray the rest into the throttle body
wait another minute and start car and take for a spirited drive

I had a shipload of smoke :D neighbors still dont invite me over :D
I felt heaps of improvement in power (I wouldnt want to put a number on the gains though)

I have a vid which I will post later that I did when I did my Foz and Daves Outback.

We sprayed it down the trottle body after removing the air intake and filter.

My foz may of had it done at the 100,000km service... I don't know. Now with almost 162,000km. I had a decent amount of white smoke and it made a huge difference. The foz runs soooo much smoother and seems like there is a 10+% increase in power and torque.
She seems to have more power throughout the whole rev range in all the gears (low range included). Seems like a new engine but the biggest difference is now when I have the A/C on I have barely any power loss. Before I would loose 20% maybe abit more power with the aircon on. it was almost like running on 3 cylinders compared to 4. I couldn't offroad with it on and couldn't overtake at all on the highway. Now its not an issue and when you turn it on you can't feel the jolting or engine struggle while driving.

I pretty much followed the instructions on the can except didn't use a vacuum hose as I was told this doesn't clean all the cylinders.

I would now say my little EJ20 Foz is like a little rocket, she really shoves along now :lildevil: Almost liek a turbo or supercharger

So it sounds like you both removed the air filter...did you replace it before you started the engine?

How do / can you use this on a fuel injected engine?

Yes. I was actually thinking last night about your OB and how you said the fuel economy isn't as good as it used to be. But you have some ridiculous km on it for its age. I reckon you should try a can or 2 and see if it helps... :raz:

G'day Taza,

What has me puzzled is that, as I don't have a carbi, where do I pour it?

Oh, btw, what is ridiculous about 396,000 km? Still another 100,000 before I need to do the timing belts and water pump ... again!

My Foz is fuel injected too. (EJ20). I took the air intake off and sprayed it in the throttle body. Had the engine running the whole time while revving it. And spent about 5mins spraying it in. Made a good 10-15% power and torque increase aswell as heaps better response throughout the whole rev range. I think she was pretty blocked up though, also had quite abit of white smoke.

Yes that many km is ridiculous!!! My foz is almost twice as old (19years old) and only has 162,000km. But I have done almost 50k since I have had her (18months) :raspberry:

If an engine has gone over its UEC service once or maybe twice the car will benefit. But if has gone way too long since it was done, the UEC might do more harm than good.

Too Late  Did that a while ago. She just burns a hell of alot of oil. Runs heaps better though.

Really? I was all set to get couple more cans

^ I ran through 2 cans while I was away and I was still making fog throughout the street. rofl

Great stuff though!!

So Perth is getting fogs now is it lol

wont it damage the o2 sensor while its going through? and another thing, whats stopping someone ringing up the RTA to dob me in for excessive emissions etc while its running and "smoking"

or would you recomend this gets done on a quiet road somewhere beyond the black stump?

I do mine on my driveway. In NSW, it's not so much the RTA but the EPA you have to worry about. By the time that all happens the car will be back to normal

i live in castle hill in sydney, is there anywhere close by i can buy this product, say repco etc.. or would i need to go to subaru direct and get a can or two?

Subaru direct, don't bother with postage either because its a gas the cost is usually 4x the cans cost.

I had to travel 600km to Perth to get some, get a few cans from your closest dealer when your near next.
