Round Oz..(all going well!)

That's what i need. Info on where to camp. Need it nice and quite, maybe some fishing, maybe free camping...stuff like that.:)
Last night was having a couple of beers,as you do, the moon was out, kangas happily grazing a couple of meters away, possums trying to help themselves to my dinner, noise of the surf in the background, hard to take really and i got to thinking about the REAL inventions of our time. You know, the ones that really matter. Not teflon, velcro, antibiotics and stuff like that.
I came up with these..
The portable fridge...probably No1.
Insect repellant.
Self-inflating matteress.
LED lights.
Deep cycle batteries.
Camp chair with stubbie holder.
Portable gas bottle.
Sunscreen.
This is the benefit of not having TV or radio. I can spend my time thinking about important stuff!!

Not free camping but some georgeous spots overlooking the ocean! They will come round in the mornings to collect fees.

It should be quiet at Mystery Bay, especially if you follow the main track through the camp grounds for about 1K. You can easily walk down to Billys Beach. Here's a couple of pics of the area (not all Mystery Bay):

Well i've just clocked up 1,700klms and am now at Bermagui. Not a bad caravan park up on the headland. The weather is a bit ordinary and the wind is mucking things up. Not going to put the boat in here but found a nice bit of river bank i can walk along for a few hundred meters so will head of this arvo for a flick.
Spent a couple of nights at Tomakin with my mate and we went fishing on the Tomaga River. Really nice!! Got no flatties which was quite astounding as it looked perfect for them. Ended up catching a load of garfish which was fun. Have not done that since i was a kid. Nice to chew also.
Called into Mystery Bay but the weather was not good enough for me to stay there. Again, a very pretty place.
I have not been to Narooma since around 1980 and bloody hell it has grown. Hard to find a quite spot these days!!
My battery set up is performing very well and the rectifier i fitted to the outboard does a good job of keeping the electric motor battery charged up.
I forgot to take the camera with me on Lake Conjola and the Tomaga River but here are a couple of pics anyway.

This is another pic of the campground at Pretty Beach. Well worth a visit out of tourist season.

The above two are a view from the headland at Tomakin.
More than likely heading off tomorrow. Depends on the weather. Wish it would settle down a bit.

Beautiful!!!

Guess you can never count on the weather though. Are you sticking to a set route, or can you alter a bit to go around the bad weather?

Sticking to the coast. Just about packed up and heading off shortly.
Chucked a lure around off the bank yesterday arvo. Still no flatties but got my first (i think) flounder on a plastic. Not a bad size so for dinner last night i had fresh flounder done in foil with a bit of olive oil and salt and pepper with a rocket/green leaves salad.
Things are ticking along very nicely.:raz:

A bit of an update. Even though i have telstra NextG with my phone and internet i am surprised about the pockets of poor reception. Big country i guess and hard to cover it all.
After Bermagui i went to Picnic Point with the idea of fishing Wapengo Lake or lagoon but it was full of oyster leases and is not my cup of tea. It's a National Park area and was nice and quiet. During the day i went for a drive to try and get internet reception and called into a couple of places as per pics.

I kept going and came to Tathra and could not beleive it. The Bega River was looking great, no oyster leasees and only 1 boat at the boat ramp. Packed early the next morning and got a site at the caravan park for 3 days and had the boat in by 10am. Not much going on but got a nice flattie and had a good day.

A few shots up the Bega River. Not a person in sight!!

A couple of shots of Nelsons Lagoon just north of Tathra.

Had the boat in the next day. Fishing is slow and only got 1 more flattie. Next 2 days i just roamed the banks around the mouth of the river and although it looks like it would fish fantastic it is mean pickings. Doesn't matter:):)
I ended up booking in for 6 days because it was just the sort of place i like. The weather has turned bad today so no fishing but hope to get the boat in tomorrow and i will get as far as i can up the river to have a look see.
I am putting in the shots of the campsites just so people can see what the sites are like.
Think i am off to Pambula on Tuesday. Loving it.

Lookin' good silver. I can feel the relaxation radiating from the computer screen!

Thanks for the update silver
That flatty looks like a nice size for a decent meal :iconwink: :raspberry: :)

Nelsons Lagoon looks like a beautiful place indeed, very quiet & peaceful for sure

The South Coast has some great spots. I finished up my Tathra fishing with 2 nice flatties this morning. 1 was 52cm and 1 was 56cm. plus one sting ray who wasn't happy to see me but is still with his mates of course!
Lost a pretty big flattie today..my guess is it was around 65-70cm.
Just about beer o'clock for me and the weather is turning a bad.
packing up tomorrow and heading for pambuls. It's been a great stay here.

It sure is a pretty area; I was very impressed on our recent club trip down there.

I moved on from Tathra after staying for 6 nights. This spot is has been the best so far. Had everything i wanted. Good caravan park and only $20 per night or $55 for 3 nights or $110 for a week for a powered site. Nice owners and plenty of room to myself.
Great river, good boat ramp, no oyster leases, nice beach 100mtrs away and hardly anyone one the river.
The weather was rubbish or ordinary at best but i got out in the boat 3 days and fished along the banks for 2. I also met a bloke who lives in Darwin and was a fishing guide for over 20 years up there.
We took our boats out early one morning and did alright. He caught more than me but i got the biggest one :raz:...happy with that!!
He gave me his contact details if i make it to Darwin.
Moved on from there to a free camping spot right next to the Wonboyn Lake turnoff. It was a NSW state forrest park and was great. Stayed for 3 nights and fished at Wonboyn with no luck except 1 tailor and 1 38cm flattie.
I took a guy out that was from Tassie and was camping with his wife and 2 kiddies.

A couple of pics of Wonboyn Lake.
The campground was great fun and the first night i met a Dutch couple who were touring around in a 'hippy camper' and we got a campfire going and several beers happening. The Dutchie bloke was really funny, he had been here before and toured around on a BMW for several months, and a girl from Switzerland came and joined us. Top night.
The weather has been really ordinary my whole trip and i arrived at Mallacoota yesterday and set up camp.
LUCKY it was yesterday!!!!! Today i am sitting in the camp laundry doing this update and it is pouring!!! I've got my stove and coffee set up under an awning and making the best of it. All part of the fun and it doesn't get me down or anything like that. Nothing i can do is there?
It just so happens that this weekend there is a round of the Australian Bream Championship (the one that is on TV), a school "relay for life" event and the Pambula Fishing Club meet all on here. The poor buggers. It's rubbish out there!!
I am here for 2 nights and then might head back to Genoa for a free camp for a couple of days if the river is accessable from there which i think it is. Then maybe back here ifthe weather improves and everybody leaves.

Well the weather has been rotten as usual but i got one trip out on the boat and put in at Gipsy Point. It was the hottest and only good day i had in 4. I went upriver and there was a fair bit of ground to keep me occupied . Got 4 small flatties and this one....

025.jpg

It was 60cm and in Vic you are only allowed 1 this size and only 5 duskies in total with a minimum length of 27cm.
It was bad luck for this girl as i needed a feed. If i had got a couple of smaller ones i would have thrown it back. Poor girl .

A couple of shots of Mallacoota.

I met a guy from the bream fishing comp that was on at Mallacoota and he suggested i go to Tamboon Inlet and so i did. Got there around lunch time and set up camp with the idea of fishing the next day but the weather changed and it poured!!!! Spent almost the whole day and night in the tent and raced out between downpours to make a coffee, have a ciggie and eat whatever i could. NOT NICE!!!!
I am now at a park in Cann River and might stay tonight or move on to Bemm River. Probably stay here i think.
The weather really has been pretty rotten my whole trip and i am now running out of time as i have to be in Newstead Vic by about the 10th of December. Still smiling though:):)!!

This is Tamboon Inlet.
Forgot to add that i was going to Wingan Inlet but i have a 25hp motor and you are only allowed a maximum of 20hp.
Tick count at the moment is 2.
Have now done 2765klms.

I go to the Mallacoota area at least once every year, fantastic spot. Btw it's spelt Gipsy not Gypsy! But don't worry even the locals get it wrong haha.

Fussy bugger!!! I fixed it. Just been relaxing here at Cann River and will be off tomorrow to Bemm River. My mate just rang me and he is at Renmark and will be at Point Turton tomorrow so it is time to get a move on. I'm enjoying my stay here and have just been taking it easy and recharging batteries and doing some cleaning up. Hardly anyone uses this park and i have made myself right at home.
I'll go to Bemm River, Marlo and maybe Lake Tyers and Lakes Entrance and then off to Newstead.
I need to change the oil in the Subie and i'll have a quick check of a bit of other stuff.
There is a funny thing up in the sky today....not sure what it is....someone told me it is called a 'sun'. It's nice whatever it is!!

Nicely done! I've never fished Bemm River but it claims to be the bream capital of Australia (or possibly just Victoria, can't remember which) so hopefully you can put that to the test...

Bloody Victorian weather!!!!!!:yell::yell::cry: Went to Bemm River and it was blowing a gale and really cold. Then went to Marlo and it rained on me so kept going to Lake Tyers and the wind was still howling so i gave up and arrived in Newstead late last night. NOT HAPPY but bad weather has been the story of the trip so far.
My mate is now in Point Turton SA and i will be there Thursday or Friday. He tells me it is blowing like mad over there also.
Anyone want a set of Thule roof racks??? See my for sale post.

We've had the coldest start to summer for 51 years - feels like winter! At least you don't have to go to work :-)

A quick plug for a Subaru dealer. I went up to Bendigo to see Scott at Innes Motors to see if he could squeeze my car in for a quick wheel bearing, drive train check, brake pads etc and he will this for free. This is the mob i bought my car from and they have been fantastic!!!!!
I got some Mobil1 5/30 for my car today...hurts a bit to pay $87 for 5ltrs of oil.
I've just done the cylinder cleaner and will do the oil tomorrow and the injector cleaner with a full tank. Wash and polish tomorrow also and a repack.

Well i'm just about done and heading off for Point Turton in SA tomorrow morning.
Things did not go quite to plan here. The check on the car has turned up a small leak from the rear diff where the drive shaft goes in and the mechanic was a bit concerned about a slight noise from the diff. The leak is only a tiny one but i will need to keep an eye on it. Otherwise all good EXCEPT the tyres just had to go!!
Put a new set of Yoko ATs on yesterday and my initial impression is that they are much better than i expected them to be. In fact they are far quieter than the ones i had on which were road tyres. Seem to handle surprising well also and i reckon the car is riding a bit smoother. Maybe something to do with sidewalls or whatever. Very happy with them.
Also got a navig8r GPS from Bob Jane, where i got the tyres, for $100. You got one for free if you were buying a set of 4 17" or larger tyres and the RRP was $179.
I have no idea how to use it but figured it could come in handy at some stage.
I checked the wheel bearings on the boat trailer at the urging of my mate down here and lucky i did. One was stuffed and the other one just OK. I had a new set in the car and he showed me how to do them so that was worthwhile.
Also picked up a spare wheel for the trailer, i had the tyre but no wheel, and bought some other camping stuff i needed and stocked up on food, beer and ciggies.
Got 2 extra 10ltr fuel containers so now have 3 and have a range of about 800/850 klms. I won't keep them full all the time but will stock up if i come across cheaper fuel. Might come in handy as we head off across the Nullarbor.
Looking forward to catching up with my mate in Point Turton and i could have a bit of work to keep me occupied. I need it after this stop!!
