What's your weapon of choice?

Here in the UK we have no handgun ownership, very few people own Rifle type stuff (I am not knowledgeable about this subject at all), there are loads of shotguns in private ownership, mainly used for clay-shooting at gun clubs. I think 'we' link the US gun based mortality rate of 30,000 people dead a year with less stringent gun control...compared to the UK figure of 42 in 2008..I believe the USA has 5 times the population ?
Lights the blue touch paper and stands back....:iconwink:

First 'anti-stab' knife to go on sale in Britain

Your government treats you the way my mom treated me when I was 7 years old. Freedom has many known side-effects, and danger is one of them. How many gun deaths are there a year in North Korea? And how many North Koreans would rather live there than the USA?

Oh, and I watched Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels last night, and for a country with no guns, I saw a lot of guns. In the hands of the people who least need to be armed.

Taurus Millennium 9MM

Isn't that Taurus' version of the Kel-Tec P-11? Damn, Frogstar, how you gonna buy a BRAZILIAN copy of a FLORIDIAN gun, being from Jax?

PS- does the Taurus Millennium have the same belt clip option as the P-11? That thing is solid-gold for concealed carry.

Lock, stock and two smoking barrels...mmmm that well known Documentary...
We have guns, just a fraction of what are held in the US and if my maths is right, US citizens are 150 times more likely to be shot dead than in the UK. Yes, I appreciate that many killings are undesirables shooting undesirables but still.....
I am all too aware of the shortcomings of this country, quite possibly 10 times as many as in the US but in general, us Brits cannot get our heads round the gun culture in the US.

Yeah, some of us Aussies too. I guess it comes down to different cultures have different values. And let's face it, that in itself is a good thing. It means I can look at the Poms and admire things about them and their country, the Yanks and their country and of course my own Aussie culture. Life would be pretty boring if we were all the same. As the Frogs would say, Viva la difference! But I would never live anywhere else and I expect you blokes would all feel the same way, and you would not be wrong.

Well to continue off topic....I'd rather live in numerous countries, parts of the US and Australia being two.
We are sat in the UK with one foot in Europe (right on our doorstep) and one firmly established in the USA. This doesn't help us.
My first post wasn't a go at the US or any other country for that matter..I just like to hear from normal people what its really like. All you get media wise is what they want you to read or hear/see
Cheers

You hit it pretty squarely on the head in your earlier post, "undesirables shooting undesirables." A whole lot of gun violence in the USA is confined to small areas, usually urban and usually poverty stricken. Places like South Central LA, Detroit, East St. Louis. Even the cops don't go there at night.
In decent middle-class neighborhoods, I would venture to say things are more peaceful than in a lot of the UK. What's that Heinlein quote, "An armed society is a polite society"?

I've spent a total of 10 weeks in the US.
Pacific NW, California and Florida.
Seldom met someone I wouldn't sit and have a coffee with for an hour. :)

dave boulder, my visit to the UK was one of wonder, amazement and enjoyment. The history there has given you something that has influenced your culture perhaps in ways you do not realise. Sure, when I was in Kent there was a bit of good natured knocking of an Aussie asking directions, and the rural roads a PITA with the hedges that do not allow anyone to overtake the slow vehicles, but I loved the place. The only thing you really have to worry about is the Aussies beating you at sport most of the time (Lewis Hamilton excepted)!

The US influence I am afraid is in most countries. That is not a criticism of the US, rather a criticism of us for letting it happen at the expense of our own culture.

Glock 22 - I keep between my seat and the consol, with a small rag over it when i'm out. Proudly licensed to carry! Truly a great weapon to carry & fun at the range. :bananagunner:

My 'not so legal to carry' Microtech Troodon that almost took off a good chunk of my thumb a year ago, automatic, front opening knife. More box cutter than weapon.:iconwink:

Used to carry a Desert Eagle .357 when I was a bodyguard, but now I just carry a CRKT M16-04Z.

Once I move to a state that doesn't suck when it comes to owning a handgun, I will either be picking up a Sig P226 chambered for .45 ACP or a Sig P250 Full size also chambered for .45 ACP.

L series - EJ22, 3 inch lift, 27 inch tyres. I would prefer 4.11 diffs, but will stick with the 3.7 for now as its doing all right :poke:

Maybe not so practical...

For general woods use.....hiking.....hunting....whatever......

It is hard to beat a 30-30 levergun.......

They carry very well.....provide enough power for just about anything.....and have low recoil.......and fast follow-up shots if needed.....

$0.02 deposited:biggrin:

Looking to the op I would second this as a truck gun and add that ammo is available all over most of the US. I would also say that the Marlin lever action in .357 magnum with proper ammo is a heck of a sweat truck gun. That said, while camping I am more concerned with the varmints of the two leg variety due to the state of civil decay.

I been absent from the list for a while enjoying the solitude of the bush and my Land Rover (yes I've graduated, or gone over to the dark side, however you may interpret it) but on return to the forum and reading how this this thread has progressed i find it gratuitous and absolutely unrelated to offroading .... don't get me wrong i've genuinely got Viking blood (DNA Haplo group I) and instinctively i know I would be thoroughly competent with a Battle Axe in melee , but I do not own one 'cos weapons are for war! however i'll be there if called and i'll take a weapon in hand for the duration and use it to it's full effect - and gladly hand it back. Sorry if I've offended......

No offense.:) I agree with you, I have never owned a firearm, and probably never will. Even my knife, I only own because I worked for the company making them, I would never set out to buy such a thing. However in this country it is a guaranteed right to own and carry firearms which is a mixed bag of blessings. I actually love guns, I like to go shooting (which I've only done a few times in my life), I appreciate the engineering and the typical manufacturing quality that goes into them. I don't hunt nor have I lived anywhere where I felt I needed to carry one for personal protection. There are plenty of crazys out there, who unfortunately, also have access to firearms so I do understand those responsible folks who do choose their right to pack some heat. Please note that this thread is in 'Off Topic' and there are plenty of folks who do head off road who go armed in order to protect themselves, you never know who or what might be around the next bend.

Thanks Carl, yes and i acknowledge the thread us off topic but where is was coming from was more a comment of surprise that this topic could run to 8 pages on an automobile recreational forum !!! - however great minds do think alike and i thank you for your comments. Yes, an Armed citizenry would be a mixed blessing.

I'll rest on that .......

Show us some pics of the disco

Mixed blessing it is - no matter what your stance is on the issue. When a friend & I would go out night fishing on Canyon Lake (just south of here), i would always keep my pistol handy in the boat because of there was no telling what kind of nut bags you would run into at 3am on a fishing dock or boat ramp.
Keeps the honest people honest & unfortunately, the dirtbags will continue to be dirtbags & cause havoc whether it's legal to carry or not...
