Rally's MY04 Forrie- Poverty Pack special

Purchased second hand. Rear diff and instrument cluster replaced under warranty. First change was to fit CB UHF GME radio. Car has externally mounted windscreen aerial bracket. Just purchased set of new KYB shock absorbers- the originals have had it- will install when they arrive. Next step is to replace standard steel rims with MY99 WRX rims. Then sump guard and driving lights.

I am not doing the work and so I don’t have the diff here to check

Your rear locker project is very exciting, you should make a thread about it in the transmission and driveline section :)

The diff locker conversion has been delayed a week. So I have begun the wiring installation. Still more wiring to be done, but not much.

I bet you're excited!

Cheers

Bennie

Sure am. The costs keep going up due to the nature of the beast. It was due last week but is now hopefully due this week. Maybe.

I am already impressed with how well my car goes off road. Yet there is always room for improvement. I am really pleased therefore to announce that the rear locker diff is now a reality, now that the final hurdle has been overcome.

I'd love to see a video of the car in action.

The diff is still at A1 Tuning & Performance being re-assembled and checked. I will pick it up tomorrow and install back in the car most likely on the weekend. Then the car will need a wheel alignment the following weekend, if anyone is open. I put a new rack in it while the car was off the road. So it might be a while before I can video it, but that is certainly the plan.

Cool !

That means that you have been able to machine the grooves, wasn't to difficult ?

Please take some more pics of the work being done.

yay a locker . real one . wow. so exciting. we need pics and videos about it and test in action.

The machining work was very difficult, quite involved and had to be very precise. The diff gear splines are exceptionally hard, with an estimated hardness of 70 on the Rockwell scale. Which means they were probably at least as hard as the cutting tools used on them.

Once the car is back together the plan is to test it out. With the holiday period starting next week, I won’t be doing this for till late January.

maybe could tell then how much that locker cost you ? just locker part

List price for the e-locker is about $1,750, Australian

Is this the price for the part before it was converted, or the final price after conversion?

If after, then not unreasonable for an enthusiast, less than the price of 2 sets of KO2s..!

Hmm.. maybe I should read.
I'm guessing it's price before conversion.

That would be the cost of the locker only
The cost of the R180 conversion & fitting the locker would be at least double that for most people. This is the reason I won't be doing this conversion, plus lack of easily accessible parts

It is just the cost of the locker itself. I'm not sure about the concern for parts. I did have a third axle made up in the off chance that this might be needed sometime when out bush. This would be the only part likely to give trouble but we think that unlikely.

When traveling in remote areas, you need to have a spare axle. If the rest turns out to be reliable that's all you would need.

Can't wait to see it fitted & tested! :monkeydance:
