NSW June long w-end camping trip to Lidsdale & Mt Airly

I'll be jealous regardless of the weather. I was going to see if I could make it just for Sat and not stay overnight but last weekend didn't go well so that's out.

Hope you all have a great trip. We'll catch up on the next one.

As for Eden, I don't know yet. We'll find out soon enough. If we can offer some help with getting his new struts in that might be good.

thats the easy part as i was just going to get the wholesale suspension guys t do it. i just couldn't be bothered organizing tools and time. thanxs anyway Alex. but the bad news is i have a family doo on which wasn't confirmed earlier but now is.. ahh its all good there usually a good laugh anyway. have fun anyway guys. i'll organise a day trip soon around Ourimbah. always wanted to go there. Al if its a different route to before make sure to log your trax again;)

Apsilon & Eden it's a shame you can't make it, the trip won't be the same without you guys

Only just noticed this thread.

Ill be out in Lidsdale on Sun with a group of MTB riders from all over the Blue Mountains - so keep an eye out and say G'Day if you see us. You'll prob see my black XT parked somewhere around.

I'm camping off Black Fellows with some other mates and heading out Sun to meet the other crew.

Looking like a good and cold (-3ish over night) weekend to get out.

Have a good one,

Ian

i'll organise a day trip soon around Ourimbah.

Sounds like plan! I'm only half hour away!

I agree with Mr Turbo, it's a shame you and Apsilon can't make it... I'll have to meet you guys another time.

Regards,

Joel

True, it would have been even better having the two of you along on this one.
Chopper... I take it that we're not taking a real chopper off into those tracks... That'd get some heads turning.

Hmm... ok then. Since most of us have already done this one before we should definitely try mixing up a bit more on the Monday. We'll be right with the Sunday trip since there's lots to do including setting up camp before dark and the evening rain/sleet etc.

I'll discuss the ideas with attendees on the Sunday anyway so there's not much point in discussing it all too much here. Let's just say that there are lots of tracks places nearby we can go for some challenges and some new places to explore altogether.

It's definitely looking like we'll cop at least a bit of rain and very cold temp's - around -2 overnight at least so bring lots of spare clothes. I'll be packing our inflatable raft and some swimmers :-)

Where are we camping Sunday night?

(In case my offspring are too hung-over to join us Sunday morning) :iconwink:

What a timely question Kevin... I was just about to post this update...

For those interested, I am planning to now head up to the camp location on SATURDAY afternoon and camp overnight. This might suit others interested in lightening their loads for the Sunday drive since we'll leave the camp setup during the day. This should also allow some more time to prepare some tarp shelters in case of bad weather as well as for dinners and chat on the Sunday night after the drive too.

As for the camp location itself, for our security, I'd rather send that specific information directly to each attendee via email so I will be in touch later tonight with that one. If you're interested in coming along but haven't called me yet to confirm your place then please call me no later than Friday night this week on 0403 223288.

Cheers,
Alex

^ per club forum, I'll join you on Saturday

Ah, so there is a trip away. Would love to come, but motor racing commitments mean I'll be away. Have a great time, hopefully another trip comes up soon

yeah i cant make it either but i know you love the winter camp out as i do. we'll get one together soon. hey how was your trip to the EU?

Really good. I did a First World War battlefield tour with a bloke who does these things. HIGHLY recommend them, one of the most important things I've done. Could not call it a holiday, more of a mission of respect to the Diggers. Then did a normal holiday tour and that was most enjoyable

Welcome home Rally. :)
Great to see you had a great time O.S.

However, on a sadder note, I won't be able to go on this trip now :sadbanana: , due to some unforeseen circumstances. :(

To say that I'm :censored: :censored: off about not being able to go is an understatement :furious:

Have fun guys, play hard & be safe. :)

So how was it guys? Weather in Sydney was rather cool so I imagine it was cold over night but should've at least been fine. Really wish I'd been able to make it.

It was good again! Days were beautiful; Saturday night was -6; my drink bottle froze in my camper and so did any ground water. The Patrol was the only vehicle to get up "that" hill! (I think front diff lock is the secret).

As well as the Patrol we had 2 Mitsubis, 1 Foz & 1 Kluger. The Kluger sliced a side-wall on Sunday so retired on Monday morning and we were joined by my son and his Wrangler to do Mt Airlie.

Old Col was a delight and he now has a plane in his paddock. Some pics:

Yep, you boys certainly missed a treat when it came to the weather. I loved the coldness. I'm glad I fixed the air-con and treated the windscreen before I went, though.:)

4WDing was a piece of cake for my Patrol, though. Like I've said before, I have to try much harder to get a true thrill like I used to with the Subie. Sorry Kevin, I didn't have the front locker on at all, unless I was hauling someone else's sorry butt up the hill. Just the rear LSD working a treat. Brilliant thing it is.

My boys loved it too, though. My 4 asked me again if we can go there this weekend! :discomonkey: So I'm a happy dad.

Lots of photos and video from the weekend that I've got to process and put up online at some stage.

It does work very well indeed then - especially as the Challenger has a rear diff lock - but AT tyres on the Challener may have made the difference.

GPS log was pretty much exactly the same as the January trip log. Only thing that won't be marked on it is how much the forest has been cut down since we were last there. Holy smokes! So much of the North Eastern side of the forest has been cleared. We could barely recognise the tracks for all the grading and removal of forestation in some areas.

As for the rear LSD... I can't wait to see how Grant and Alison's Challenger goes once they have some AT's on it. Kevin, your Triton went really well too. I've been watching the video footage and I reckon a little more weight in the back and/or lower tyre pressures would have given you that little more traction to get you to the top. You got all the way to the timber we laid in the ruts and a little more clawing at the sides of the ruts would have helped too. Ah well, too many things to think about for the next try I guess.
