Replacement Struts & Springs for 05 Outback

Hi Barry,

Someone sent this to me reagrding adjustable strut tops for your car. Note- it is their appraisal, not mine, as I know nothing about them. But I guess it is a good sign.

Try wilkinsonsuspension.com.au from WA, their service is pretty good to,

I think the part # is WSC4003S

Sent of an e-mail over the weekend and received a response today, which was great, given how long some businesses can take to reply. :)

Unfortunately, they don't manufacture strut tops for late model Outbacks and Libertys. :(

So, it looks like steel off-set lift blocks will be the go, as that will be considerably cheaper (~$200) than Gen 3 King Springs, upper perches, and Whiteline Gen 3 adjustable top hats. ($500+)

Judging from this response on subaruoutback.org, - some good info over there - I should be able to fit front (lower) camber bolts without any drilling https://www.subaruoutback.org/forum...009-outback-suspension-faq-26.html#post302482
Also, a very useful thread on NAISOC - have seen it before, cant remember where.

Does anyone know what the hole size is? Not sure if they are 14mm or 12mm diameter. :iconwink:
If this works there won't be any need to replace the front strut blocks.

Thanks Carl,
I'm sure I will get it to work.
The key is to change just one thing at a time.

The rear camber bushes have returned the rear to within spec. (Now -1 deg 18' left and -0 deg 22' right)
If the camber bolts don't give me enough negative in the front then I'll just have to get the off-set lift blocks made.

Oh well, the price of modifying I guess! Still, I have already got lots of places with the lift that I wouldn't have without, and 'that's what its all about'!

Report: "Two years on"

As per my recent post in the "What have you done..." thread in the General forum,
I now have a set of 2" strut blocks with in-built off-set, which I'll be fitting, together with heavy duty standard length King Springs.

The primary reason for the change is that I need the heavy duty springs for the loads I carry when touring - especially the 'tow ball weight' when towing my pop top camper.

It is now going on 2 years since I had the combined springs and lift fitted - September 2010 - in which time I have done the best part of 70,000km (@ 5,000km every 7 weeks!).

Despite my initial concerns regarding tyre wear due to the lack of off-set with the lift, tyre wear has remained within acceptable limits.

I thought this review might be useful for others.

Have just enquired about standard length King Springs to go with my new 2" lift.

Long story short, Kings don't do standard length springs, so it looks like back to the original springs which I had removed.

Talk to Ralf at Trutrak in Nth Melb (9326 5392). He's making some custom springs for the dulagarl. Cost is approx $150 a wheel i'm told.
