Lidsdale Trip Jan 2010

Great vids apsilon. :)
They really give a different perspective of what it was like being the driver, compared to what it was like from my/our point of view looking on from the sidelines.

I was really interested to see how you fared on that descent (last big off-set rock step down) since I was behind you and couldn't see. It's pretty clear from the video that you were rocking on three wheels for a bit there.

Fun fun fun!

Sorry to hear about your back mate. Not good. I remember you telling me about it on Wednesday morning but we weren't sure how long you'd have that pain. Poor bugger. As it stands, I've got my Patrol's insurance renewal in the mail and it's a LOT more than last year thanks to the company being bought out. Looking elsewhere now after giving them such a good wrap the other day. We'll see how we go for affording 4WDing in the future. Who knows... might have to go back to the ol' Subie after all.

Yeah I was easing it down as slowly as possible as I wasn't sure if it'd clear or not. I'd like to try those two again with about 5psi less pressure in the tyres.

BTW ARB swapped my EZ Deflator no questions asked. For those that may not have seen it part of the brass stamping that holds the gauge to the hose snapped internally. Worked perfectly on the first day and the next morning was broken

Side's getting better each day but it's going to be a few more days before I'd call it comfortable. If something had to get damaged I'd rather it be me than the car. I'm self repairing

Thats good to hear :)
Good to see that you haven't lost your sense of humour either. :iconwink:

Someone can repost them to the Subaru and Recreational 4WD club form as I'm still waiting for full access.

Message from club webmaster:
"If you have recently signed up and are a member of the club than please send an email to the webmaster with your username and full name so we can validate that and grant the additional access.
Members get access to additional forums covering trips, general member chit chat and the like."

I signed up the other day but that's not complete either. I chose to pay via paypal but I didn't see an address to send payment or receive a payment request nor the amount for that matter. I assumed someone would contact me.

Hmm.. odd. It's all automated if you use the PayPal feature... shows amount and address etc. I did still need to contact the administrator as per Kevin's instructions... until then they didn't know I'd paid for some unknown reason. Must have been the new webpage setup. Once that's done you're set.

Something's not right then as it accepted my details on the form but that was it. I had expected it to go to paypal for payment but when that happened I assumed I'd receive a request via email but that hasn't happened either. Just put it down to being a bit slow with people still on holidays.

I'll drop an email to the webmaster address.

The paypal portion is not part of the form.

If you click on the Orange Pay Now button, it will take you to the paypal page with payment details filled in and correct amount etc. You just need to login to your paypal account.

There was no Pay Now button though I've just checked and there is now so I've just submitted payment.

The site renders oddly sometimes. Probably something that IE7 doesn't like. Often get a lot of blank space at the top that I have to scroll down past. Can't view the source to see what it might be.

Hey fellas... check this out:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/nsw-act-reports/34064-sydney-lroc-tuff-trip-mount-walker.html

This is a trip report I came across while researching my next trip by the Land Rover Owners forum and it shows their trucks getting stuck in exactly the same spot as Kevin, Damian and Michael did on our trip last week. The report is two years old and the track actually looks to be in better condition but our "softroaders" got to exactly the same spot. Howzat!

You've got to be proud of that. Heck, Matt in his Pajero (which are hammered all the time for less capability) should be darned happy.

Cheers,
Alex

You're right, I am happy the Pajero gets hassled all the time. Gives people time to brag about their own rigs before they get surprised or hopefully embarressed :D

Pics don't work on that thread for me unfortunately. I am surprised the Land Rovers couldn't make it though. They really are a capable vehicle generally speaking.

Walker on that thread has a LWB Pajero like mine so he'd be aware of what they're like.

 :bananagunner: :woohoo: :bananagunner:

One thing I do regret about that hill is that I didn't have a second shot at it from where I stopped as I think I was past the hardest part.
Subalex would know best though as he was in the best position to see.

Nah... on the day it appeared that you were not in any condition to reverse down there... I haven't seen you so scared and I respect that. It WAS hairy. The track was so slippery toward the bottom anyway, as we saw from the other two who nearly got caught up in the fencing, that it wouldn't have been fun anyway. Have another crack at it next time. Lower tyre pressures might well be all you need Damo.

Yeah I agree. Trying to do a hill start in a turbo manual without low range on a loose surface would've been a massive ask. I think you did the right thing in staying put

That said IIRC you made it the furthest up of yourself Kevin and Michael.

I should've had a second go at that last climb with my tyres down to 25 or so (I was still at 29). Something for next time.

Yes a little less air in the tyres would probably be the go. :)
Next time I think I'll drop to 23psi instead of the 26.5psi that I had on the day. :iconwink:

How about you try doing some measurements at home or on the track... get three rulers, or two straight edged and flat objects and one 50cm long ruler. You know how to measure the footprint of your tyres using these...

Stick two rulers out from the front and rear of the tyre tread and measure the distance between them. Then measure how much more of a footprint you get as you lower the pressure down more and more. You'll get to an optimum pressure for the circumstances. Front to back will be different too because of the weight distribution.

This is the only way to do it properly. Each type of tyre will bag out more or less than another and at a different pressure due to it's sidewall construction.

That's a good idea, I'll try and do that this week. Priorities for the next few days are to get the snorkel fitted. If I still have time I'll change out the front split speakers (assuming the adaptor rings I've made fit and the speakers themselves aren't too deep) and add some sound deadening.

Following that I still have the jump start switch to add, the motion sensing override so I can use the GPS, ipod etc on the move, wire up the second rear socket, wire up the external rear anderson conenction, wire up the aux reverse/camp light and the new front flood and wash and detail the car.

I must try that myself. It will be interesting to see what the results are.

Regards
Mr Turbo

what's with the wash and detail... you idiot! :raz:

Seriously though, all those additions are excellent value to have I must say. Just don't skimp on the thickness of wire to the rear sockets. You're installing a major in-line fuse on the line right near the battery?
