forester2.5I
Transmission
5 speed
Car won’t idle, no hill start assist, ABS light on, check engine light on, cooling fan won’t stop
Got a p0500 code. Speed sensor A.
Will it cause all these problems?
Was doing fine until all this happened at same time!
PS. Speedo still works, won’t wind over 4000 rpm

I replaced front wheel bearings 7000 miles ago but not sensors, I pulled them today to look for mud and stuff but found nothing. AutoZone parts store scanner says front right wheel speed sensor…. Of course they can’t get on for a week!
Subaru dealer wants $240 usd.!!

It’s got 256000 miles guess I shouldn’t dog to much👍
Thanks for the help and happy to be a part of the forum,

The speed sensor is on the gearbox (manual)

@jf1sf5 - I believe this thread refers to the bearing / reluctor sensor ;)

@Royoutdoors Apart from the bearings 7000 miles ago has anything else been done to the vehicle recently?

All front suspension replaced,A arms axles, ball joints, sway bar links. Still running stock struts & springs. & 2” lift installed

Ya, I tried that first thing, all that cleaned up like new but still same thing. Talked to a couple mechanics today, gonna call Subaru tomorrow and see what they say & check if they have part in stock.
Thanksgiving holiday today so everyone is closed, hoping Subaru is open tomorrow or it may have to wait till Monday.

We’ll bit the bullet, ordered sensor be here Wednesday, $217.96 amazing it can mess up that much stuff!. Was just curious so checked on same sensor for wife’s 2010 Camero….$18.00

Driving with that error for long time now...but it comes with c0023 and c0027 as well on dash errors.
Maybe my problem would solve spees sensor as well but then why abs sensors errors

0500 only code comes up on mine but ALL warning lights are lit. Can’t drive it, if it gets under 1000 rpm it dies!

Yippee installed new sensor, so far so good!!!
That's good to hear.

As I've explained many times here, when your ECU throws a CEL, regardless of cause, the car goes into "limp mode". All the fancy stuff that the ECU does is turned off, and a set of ROM based default settings take over.

These ROM based settings are fixed, and the fuel economy just tanks, among many other things. And the car behaves like a sullen, bad slave, as you have found.

With all modern cars, an OBDC II sender and Torque Pro on your phone or tablet are as essential as the ubiquitous 6" shifting spanner was in the old days (and still is ... ).

A decent OBDC II sender costs less than $50 AUD, and Torque Pro costs the same as a cup of coffee. Torque allows both analysis and clearing of codes that are causing the ECU to throw a hissy fit, in most cases, and isolates the cause in others. It is ubiquitously useful.
