Took the Mitsubishi ute in for a service Monday morning. It has a moisture sensor in the fuel filter and the warning light has been going on / off for a while, especially now it's winter as I think it reacts to condensation. Lately it's been on all the time even after I drain the filter. Asked the service rep to have a look at it - "that's a $265 diagnostic fee"; I told them to forget it as it's probably cheaper to just replace the sensor! (or put the funds towards a fuel/water separator) :rolleyes:

You did tell them that you only wanted them to look at it, you didn't want to necessarily buy one. :mad::mad:

I had a great relationship with the then service manager but he left last year and they've had two service managers since! The service desk which used to have 4 or 5 service advisors now has just two. At least the head mechanic is still the same but after 13 years of servicing at the same place I'm now wondering if I need to look for alternatives :unsure:
 
$265 for a diagnostic fee. Yeah I would be looking elsewhere
 
Geez, Kevin, that's a bit steep. Ross just pops it on to see if anything critical needs doing. No charge.

These days, that's like charging a fee to make a service booking ...

The idiot needs to have fixed/variable costs explained to him before he ruins whatever's left of the business.

Sounds like my Honda Dealership Kevin.
I put the HRV in for it's 90,000km Service last month. No salesmen to be sighted, just the Sales Mgr. in his office with his feet up on the desk and on the mobile phone. 2 elderly people (a bit older than me) pulled up in a Mercedes Benz A Class, walked around the new Honda's on the floor and in the yard for approx. 30 mins., not one person from the Dealership came near them. Wife & I did the same thing about 3 weeks earlier, wife put a review on Honda's Google page and the Sales Mgr was on the phone the next day at opening time. She told him what she thought of him and the dealership and we would not be buying another Honda from them.

I did a similar thing with a Salesman from the Nissan dealer in Caloundra, told him not to bother I would go and buy a Forester, and I did. 3 days later I drove it into the Nissan dealers driveway and brought him out to show him. Haven't looked at Nissan since that day, I'm running out of choices. 🤣🤣🤣

And proper head gaskets.

1.59:1 low range would probably cause a lot of warranty claims behind the EJ253 engine. It has a far flatter torque curve than the EJ251, particularly so at low revs. Probably rip the poop out of such a low ratio. Probably around 1.25:1 would work.

Personally, I think that the series 2 SG was the best Forester ever made.
 
The 1.59 can be a problem if you have a turbo motor fitted. Gearboxes are expensive. With a NA motor they are excellent. With a series 2 motor probably better.
I agree the series 2 probably the best ever.
