I'm calibrating one of my camping fridges after installing a new thermostat unit for its Danfoss compressor. Does anyone here know the ideal temperature differential? Currently I have it set to approx. 1C / 34F

(For those not familiar with "temperature differential" it is the low/high temperature difference which controls when the compressor cuts in and out i.e. I am not asking the ideal temperature for a fridge)

I would suggest between 2⁰-3⁰C, Kevin. One needs to minimise the number of starts, as starting the compressor uses 2-3x as much power as running it. Certainly, this is the case with our pool heater. It draws around 5-6 kW when starting, and only about 2-2.5 kW when running.

Slightly different power usage (!), but I assume that the relative current draw will be similar.

You mean hysteresis.

That make sense John. This has some pretty good info:

Just to follow up I set the temp at 2C with a differential of 2C. So the compressor will stop at 2 and start at 4
