Join me and a few other Subaru nuts for a weekend of exploring Pennsylvania State Forest AND Abercrombie Reserve. We will be meeting at a point decided by the attendees, likely in Bathurst, before heading out to Pennsylvania SF near Orange where we will explore some of this relatively unknown park. We'll then head to Abercrombie for camp on Saturday night. Sunday will be a drive through Abercrombie and there are some amazing (some very steep) tracks there to enjoy.
Vehicle prep: All terrain tyres and sump guard recommended. UHF CB radio required. Lift and barwork optional.
Recovery gear: snatch strap and 2 rated bow shackles at minimum. Shovel and traction boards optional.

Sounds interesting and Alex is an excellent trip leader. For anyone interested in going from Sydney it appears Bells Line of Road is still closed due to landslides so will need to use the Great Western H'Way.
 
Argh, I have literally just returned last night to Coffs Harbour from a week away at my property at Tuena, NSW, just over the hill from Abercrombie 😤
 
Well I'm up for it and have messaged Alex - taking the Triton as the Foz needs new shoes.
 
Not meant to be for me it seems - the Saturday night campground is booked out! I will call NPWS in the morning to see if they can slip me in as part of the group :(

Unfortunately due to the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service COVID restrictions in the National Parks I was not able to gain an overnight booking for the campground. Really ridiculous when you can have 100 people in your home and 200 outdoors. :(
 
Next time a trip is planned, happy to have people camp at my property in Tuena, plenty of room and basic facilities (100 Snag BBQ ;)), and it's only a 15-30min drive over the hill to the Abercrombie and Pennsylvania NPs

Absolutely! We're quite stuck at the moment with accommodating everyone, it seems. Group is currently 6 vehicles (not including Kevin in his Triton) and the restrictions are really quite... well.... restrictive.
 
It sure is; September 2009 a trip which I am sure Alex remembers very clearly as he had an Outback strapped to the rear of his Patrol for our exit from the park!

The weekend trip was absolutely awesome, with a steady increase of challenges as the weekend progressed. Finishing with a very difficult ascent of Little Bald Hill as the sun started to go down. The looooongest recovery strap ever, with something like 10 straps all connected together to reach one of the cars. Even I needed a short tow to climb up a loose pebbly section I had slid into... thanks to leaving traction control on and the engine was substantially retarded on the way up.... dang it.
All had a fantastic time and every one of us had a different model Subaru - SH XT auto, SJ manual diesel, SK CVT, XV CVT, 05 Outback 3.0 auto... all with 2" lifts, sump guards and some with SubaXtreme bars. Each one sounded uniquely different as they drove by. Quite impressive how diverse they have become over the years.

Seems like the Triton, it's winch, winch extension, and it's 10 metres of 2.5 ton rope might have come in handy! Sounds like an excellent trip and a shame I missed it.

Must have been a total blast! I tour alone but it would be nice to join like-minded Subaruers.

You've got that right, Kevin. Still, once your SG has new boots you'll have to join us on the next one. Stay at my place if you like.

Touring alone is a good thing a lot of the time... noone to worry about holding up while you explore all the dead ends, but it certainly is frightening doing the more challenging stuff alone. Hence, I always prefer to travel the harder tracks in convoy. Join us next time.
 
@subalex Thanks Alex - I've just discovered the sub-fan on the Foz is not working again so just as well it wasn't out and about :)

Is that due to a problem with your manual operation switch or solenoid?
