Subaru on the Dakar '82

^ yes, she is doing well. It was Daniel's turn to get lost so was 3rd overall but then got a 10 minute penalty so now 5th; Toby is 14th so he has made up time.

well Eaudis where 1st and 3rd today, so they doing ok , i like how they look a lot too. front agressive and futuristic.

we have 10 racers in this year Dakar. and they doing pretty well in all categories for now . a lot has changed with new class T1 + now with larger wheels and longer travel suspension they can go faster on harder surfaces. if someone bought new T1 car last year its just bad luck for them as T1 cant compete so well now with T1+

I’ve enjoyed watching the highlights on YouTube. Stumbled across it one night in my video suggestions.

Every sort of sport evolved into the corporate money making type of sport, and the Dakar is no different. There are certainly better safety systems at play for the drivers and teams than there was “back in the day”. But much like Bathurst, while it’s awesome to see the race bred vehicles do their thing, I’d love to see a minimally modified factory class run as well, kind of under the old motto of “raced on Sunday, sold on Monday” of the factory vehicles.

Either way, I’m always in awe of the riders and drivers! They’re boarderline insane!! I was very surprised to see that one of the trucks was driven by a paraplegic (awesome!). How good that must be for that fella!!

Good to see the Aussie riders doing us proud. And it’s interesting to see that we have a growing number of contestants as the years go on.

Cheers

Bennie

Well ...... good until he rolled it on its side :(

Was interesting to see some of the old race competitors driving in T-shirts and shorts, no helmets of course!

There is a class of vehicle that are pretty much standard Toyota has dominated this class for years

At this stage of the race Daniel is still is a good position; looks like "something" happened to Molly as she's dropped to 26

Was running 5 over took 2 cars then got lost found her way back but behind the 2 cars she over took earlier was pushing hard but didn't see a big dip and hit it too hard and smashed the front end then had to wait 2 hours for their assistance truck finished in the dark but finished

Did anyone see that double cab twin engine DAF truck in the Classics- hard to tell if it was coming or going!
Seems the front engine drives the rear wheels and the rear engine drives the front wheels. :D

Unfortunately Daniel has withdrawn - fractured his elbow on the way to the start of stage 7 :( So it's up to Toby now in the bikes! Molly is still doing OK in 12th but at 26 mins behind will be hard to catch up - but anything can and does happen in DAKAR.

I saw that 2 head monster in one video too.
So someone rented it and drives now ...wow.. how scary that should be

Well I think a miracle is needed if we are to see any Aussies on the podium this year! Toby's previous navigational errors are now the sting in the tail where he lost 40 mins and he's now in 6th place and 26 mins behind. Molly's first DAKAR outing currently at 13th is not too shabby especially given the early mechanical issues!

I know what you mean. Up until the late 90s we had homologation rules pretty much on everythink top-tier. It was a different era because anyone could buy the same chassis as the one that's being raced. Imagine that!!! Besides, it showcased how manufacturers built their vehicles, not how race car companies were run.

Yes, from the 80-series on, they have won the unmodified class and nothing else comes close yet.

Well it's over for another year; I was about to say any DAKAR without someone dying is a good DAKAR but then it seems a mechanic from one of the teams was killed in a road accident yesterday :(

Pretty good for our racers like there 4 of them first timers and 3 of them finished in 11 place and 1 in 4th even. So that great. Sadly person on newest t1+ toyota rolled and crashed , smashed car so much .
