BTW, I thought the ECUs in my Impreza and our Camry were under the passenger's feet, inside the vehicle. Also the case on quite a number of other vehicles, but I have never actually researched this. Is this still the normal location?

From what I'm led to believe & understand, yes they are.

However, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Not sure bout the SG Foz (your model) but on mine the ECU is on the engine up near the brake booster. Not ideal but way better than a footwell lol

Not so sure about that mate.

In the engine bay, it could get swamped by a surge of water. In the footwell, that cannot happen, and the door seals should keep most water out of the vehicle in any case - other than being submerged; in which case none of it does much good - let the waters take the vehicle, and hope to live to recover from one's insurer!
