I was told this was the right place to ask these kind of questions so here i go
i own a 2010 forester na 2.5l auto and i wanted to know which engine would best fit this car....ive been hearing a lot about the EJ20 turbo. my current engine works just fine but just for something in the future because money aint right now and im sure a lot of you can relate ( f covid) but anyways what do you guys think would work ej20 or other engines??

Thanks in advance

G'day & Welcome over here too @fubarusorester0

As you may have read on "that other forum" you are better off buying an XT upfront if you want a turbo Forester. You would be best advised to swap with another SH NA engine when / if the time comes ;)

Supercharge it.
Supposedly easier than turboing an N/A
Probably a fair whack more expensive and maybe not as beneficial, but I've always had a thing for superchargers.
Or... (and this is somewhat on my to do list) Pic up a spec B liberty, throw that motor in it, then supercharge it and sell me the 6 speed drive line cheap, so I can put it in my SVX!

edit: Hi @fubarusorester0 :)

You would need very deep pockets to do this ;-)
Like my supercharger idea, it requires more money than sense. ;)

Bobby "2.5x_sleeper" over at SF.ORG did a supercharger on his son's SG; said he would never undertake that job again!

@fubarusorester0 :welcome: .

Serious modifications are not for the feint of heart, nor those with shallow pockets.

You also end up with a vehicle that few will attempt to work on :(.

Best way to do this is with a JDM XT halfcut - if that is a thing. Everything will be a direct swap over. Dash will have to come out, wiring looms swapped, rear diff probably swapped too.

Again, not for the faint hearted and it will take time to do the swap. You’ll need to be competent at spinning spanners, paying attention to details, possibly reading and comparing wiring diagrams, and avoiding busted knuckles. You also need space to do this conversion... and time!

If they’re all a yes above, then go for it. If not, go buy an XT as other have said.

@duncanm will have more of an idea of this since he did this with his Gen3 wagon.

Cheers

Hmmm... that would be nice. I saw one in the wrx blue on the outskirts of Bendigo. I didn’t know we got the XT STi - but it could be an import too I guess.

I’m sure any import place would have an inventory of half cuts to choose from. Contact one and go from there if you are keen for a swap.

Cheers

We didn't get them from the dealer, but half cuts were commonly imported, until recently when the import laws have changed, and you can now import full Forester STIs from Japan and get them registered
