^ Are you seroious Carl?
I can can use CAD programs quite well. If someone or a couple of people help me I am willing to give it a shot at designing a locker.

Yeah, I'd have to look at the drawings first, I'm sure there would have to be some purchased parts, but I'd have a go. Honestly, I really have almost no idea what all goes into one, but I'd sure be willing to help out making a prototype.

Good stuff, Carl. And, heck yeah, an air locker for our Subies would be brilliant!!

Looky here. We could have our own in house ORS parts division
Sorry Sumo! j/k

I would not be doing any production, SUMO can handle that, if they want.:iconwink: Depending on whats involved in making it and materials needed, I might make two or three instead of just one though.:)

New project...

It's not mine though, I bought my son an Estes model rocket for his birthday and we need a launch pad for it. Why buy one when you can completely over engineer/over build one??? This was really the best thing I could have done to celebrate Fathers Day. Welcome Terrapondus Machine Works new employee/apprentice Hayden!!!

Cutting some steel!!! Hayden had a blast, he thought it was the coolest thing milling the 'feet' down to within .002" of .500".

Gotta' learn how to file off the burrs.

Center drilling.

Tap drilling for 3/8"-16 screws to be used for leveling the launch pad.

Then we ran out of time for the day. To be continued...

Awesome! That's a nice press you got there.

Thanks!!! This is a wee bit more than a drill press though. It's a 'knee type milling machine' and it will do way more than a drill press can ever dream of. Table moves on two axis' and the 'knee' is the third axis which are all calibrated to .001". There are also many ways to position other parts of the head that would take a very long time to list.

I can imagine how much fun it was to move that big boy in there!

It actually wasn't too bad, having had the right equipment. The green machine in the background of my second pic is my lathe, and they were both moved in at the same time. I hired a flatbed tow truck and we had a fork lift to load them with, on the mill you can rotate the head down to make it less top heavy, when we got to the house we tilted the tow truck bed and slid them off with the winch, from there with a big pry bar and some round pieces of steel stock we just rolled them into position. Took four people and about an hour all said and done.:)

Like you say carljwnc, why buy one, when you can make it instead :iconwink:
And there's nothing better than being able to say, "hey I made that myself"

Regards
Mr Turbo

Carl -- My only question: Is that a Nissan in the background of that second pic?!?

For the record, I can't say anything bad about Nissans, since I bought a (gently used) Nissan X-trail last year and absolutely love the turbo-diesel and 6-speed manual transmission that it came with...

That's my Dad's Nissan pickup, his second, both have served him well.

To be honest, my loyalty to Subaru wanes every time I think about how much I like diesels with manual transmissions. I really would like the option of buying a new Forester with the Boxer Diesel here in the US next year! Unfortunately, the chance of that happening is probably less than 20 percent.

Looking at all the diesel options that Volkswagen offers on the Jetta Wagon, Touareg, and Tiguan, not to mention the lowly Golf, Subaru here in the US does not look so good... Even though times have been worse, the US will never again experience truly cheap gasoline. Those days are over. So diesel is the only way to go...

You could always move to Australia :poke:
Atleast your petrol is still cheaper than what we pay here..
