Uel header ground clearance?

Check this link: A Budget Overlander, Forester Part II: Protection - Expedition Portal. They fit Primitive Racing on UEL. You can probably get some reference on the photos.

I appreciate the effort, but thats the same oem exhaust manifold i already have

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't that UEL already? Mine is the Series 2 and with EL ones so they have to twist everything around in front of the oil pan to make it EL.

1998 EJ Header: By design, the primary runners are of unequal size. The ones connecting to cylinders 1 and 2 are longer than the ones for 3 and 4. The GCs and BGs run this same setup, as well.

2004 EJ Header: Same as above except that there are more heat shields.

2006 EJ Equal Length Header: The primary runners are of equal size.

Are you referring to aftermarket more aggressive unequalling of the header like this one where the primary runners for cylinders 2 and 4 are of equal length but are much longer than the ones for 1 and 3?

This setup runs through the front of the oil pan and if that is the case, the spacers will be somewhat similar to the EL ones. Cheers.

@ABFoz - those first two factory Y pipes are pretty much equal length. Literally no Subaru burble from these.

My sister’s liberty has a set of UEL exhaust extractors/headers on it that we made at a mate’s dad’s exhaust shop. No loss of clearance and the factory plastic air dam fits/hasn’t melted. Sounds awesome and bolts to the factory flange at the cat, so it’s easily swapped for the original unit if need be.

More clearance could be made by removing more pipe from the pipe off the heads, it’s just more work.

Cheers

Yes, you're right. They may be unequal but only by a slight bit, especially immediately after the manifold, so you get a brrr instead of a bob-bob-bob. The last one is the proper one to be able to give a proper burble. Apologies as I was thinking that when the primary runners are unequal by a few mms, they are already UEL. I never thought that the real UEL sound that people look for is the one that was installed in earlier EJ20 turbos like the one below. I've only come up close the non-turbo EJ25 ones, haha.

If that is the case, the runners of cylinders 2 and 4 will pass by the front by the oil pan and @4eat05 is referring to how much clearance will be needed for the skid plate to clear. With reference to the UEL in the above photo, there isn't much spacing needed as the primary runners for cylinders 2 and 4 are located above the oil pan so it should clear.

As seen above, the turbo exhaust manifold can be used, remove the up-pipe and replace with what ever section you desire to fit the rear exhaust pieces.

Only issue I see here is that they’re cast and heavy!

I’ll go grab a pic of the UEL exhaust manifold on the Liberty (“Basil”).

Cheers

Custom is the way to go. Anyone price up from a shop how much it would cost to get what you want?

Here’s ours on Basil - EJ251 RX Liberty wagon, road hugger:

Trying to show the clearance that’s maintained with these UEL pipes:

I hope this helps other with what they want to achieve with their setup ;)
