That's about what I spent on my car preping it for a trip to WA and back last year.. I blew 75% of my holiday budget on repairs and preventative maintenance before I even left lol.

Make sure you enjoy the trip though!

Thanks - getting closer! I leave this Saturday July 4th. I think I need to get a couple more 10L Jerry cans to lift my total fuel capacity to 120L.

G'day Kevin,

I did the Simpson a couple of weeks ago with the Subaru 4WD Club of WA and our fuel consumption varied (759km from Oodnadatta to Birdsville via the French line & Eyre creek detour):
- Keith's 2 litre 2002 manual Forester used 86 litres of premium (I don't know how he does it but he always gets great fuel consumption),
- my 2.5 litre 2005 (MY06) auto Forester used 110 litres of unleaded
- Tony's 2.5 litre 2007 auto Forester XT used 120 litres of premium.

We did the crossing from west to east and didn't have any real troubles - took a second run at a couple of dunes but never used a shovel or snatch strap. In fact by the time we got to big red we found it pretty uneventful and made it over first time.

Have fun its a great trip.

^ that's great info re fuel consumption as I was wondering - thanks.

I did get the extra jerry cans and so will have the 120L and I usually run 95. We expect approx 641 klm - Oodnadatta / Mt Dare / Dalhousie Springs & Ruins / Purni Bore / 30ks up the French Line / Poepell Corner / Birdsville

On my way in the morning. I'll update when I can.

Have fun Kevin, take care & be safe :)
And remember to take heaps of pics.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Kevin, best wishes for your trip!!! Have FUN and be safe. Anxiously awaiting the trip report...:bcool:

Besides fuel I think the Thermals would be the next most important item on that list Kevin.

Have a great time mate and a safe trip.

:) :) :) :)

^ yes, I did need them on occasion!

I'm back! In short, great adventure, bent both rear struts, stone strike on bonnet / hood, the oil seals (cams, crank) I had replaced before the trip are leaking worse than before the fix. Had to get a rear wheel bearing replaced in Mildura. More later once I get myself organised.

I tried posting from Mildura while waiting for the car to be fixed but with my mobile internet I kept getting booted off before my replies could be posted.

Welcome home mate. :)
Sounds like an adventure and a half alright.
Can't wait to see & hear all about it, once you get yourself sorted. :raz:

Glad your back Kevin!!!:)

Sounds like by the damage report, it was a successful trip. (-the cam and crank seals, those should have been fine:confused:)

Anxiously awaiting the trip report.

My radiator just blew its top! Looks like the header tank or between the header and core - ah well better at home than in the middle of the desert! It did take a fairly severe nose dive at one point and I wondered if anything got damaged!

Soon - still catching up on stuff! :iconwink:
