Limited slip diffs

Is there a separate thread somewhere about LSDs?
All the posts I've seen about lockers and LSDs are for earlier Subarus. What is the case for SJs (2017)? Will they work with the 2017 VDC? I'm concerned that an LSD or locker would "conflict" with the VDC or the VDC would have to be turned off. My car is the base model and doesn't have X-mode.

Helical diffs work great with VDC. So well that I would love to retrofit a VDC in my SF.

Thanks for the reply.
What are some brands of helical differential that will fit the Subaru? Do the SJ 2017 have the R160 rear end?

Here's a pic of my Forester, just for grins.

You probably have a r160 but better check first. The most common r160 is the 5 bolt and the helical I have is a Quaife listed for Impreza on their website. They also have a helical for the front diff.

but wouldnt you like that full lock torque lockers like diff in rear, and wierdly work with VDC too, so all best must be, thought not much test was done in videos at least for those.

I had a lunch box locker like the Torquelocker in a 2WD Dodge Pickup. It was great off-road but problem was that it would lock up on slick roads. If the road had a crown or was on an angle, the truck would go sideways. It would be deadly on ice. The other thing was on sharp turns on pavement it would lock up if you gave it power and one wheel would start hopping or dragging.

I've heard that a problem with helicals is that if one tire is completely off the ground it will spin like an open diff. Have you run into this? If so, will applying a little brake solve the problem?

You are right, helicals don't like lifted wheels and yes, I've run into this several times. I've tried left foot braking but its not easy nor very effective, reason why I'd love to retrofit a VDC...but a good line and long travel suspensions help alot !
