What is the "Subaru image" where you are?

Long Island is absolutely FLOODED with Subarus. They're everywhere. You get the hot rod guys in hopped-up STi's and WRX's all over the place. Loud as hell, slammed to the ground, bright colors. But really, 99% of the Foresters and Legacy's on our roads are driven by completely normal, average looking people. Much of the time women in their 40s-60s.

I am the one and only Subaru driver on Long Island that I have ever seen that actually offroads the thing. I drive my Forester around completely covered in mud and man, does it get some looks! There's not a huge offroad community here anyway, so seeing a Forester with a giant roof rack and mud and dirt absolutely everywhere - yeah, gets some attention.

Blu has been going wheeling since i bought him 4 years ago. He also has been wheelin all over the Pacific North West.

so thrpppttttttt

and yes i am on Long Island too.

haha you guys should meet up. hey nipper whats that hanging off the side of your car? looks like a cat or something? and a big welcome to you straycatkid:biggrin: i hope it's not a cat or you two might not get along:poke::raspberry::lol:

where i live there's heaps of subies. mainly outbacks newer models, foresters and a few hotted up/lowered fozzies aswell as WRX's. i couldn't really pin down any stereotypes. i reckon people buy subies because of their reputation as a well built and reliable car

:welcome: straycatkid!!! Sounds like you and nipper need to go hit the dirt.

Got your sticker order too, should be sent out by the end of the week.:)

I would have to say that about 25% or more of the cars I see on the road when driving to & from work would be Subies. The majority of them being stock Forry's, being driven by what looks like the average person who lives next door.
If you were to look at the cars in our car park at work, I'd say about 15-20% of them are Subies, which are an even mix of Forry's, Outbacks, & WRX's.
Unfortunately they always seem to be clean & none of them have mud on them :sadbanana: apart from my one that is
It's always covered in dirt, dust & mud   :lildevil:

Its actually a humping chiuhaha toy dog. We all have one stuffed animal on our cars when we go wheelin in NJ.

For now Blu isnt going to be agressivly wheeling like he was, as he is set fro climbing as opposed to mudding. That and last time his new back bumper skin got torn and the front Universal is pissed.

Anyone in the states got a rear bumper skin?

:)

Oh man, nip, I gotta make a trip to NJ for that off-road park. Looks awesome!

Next time I get the Forester good and dirty I'll be sure to post pictures. Last night I gave it a good bath following a ride in the mud the night before.

Thanks for the decal, Carl. I know just where it'll go, can't wait!

In Western Michigan, there are basically two kinds of subarus: those geared towards performance and those towards the soccer mom/older generation, you see the families in the wagons and the older women in the wagons, and you see all of the sedans dropped and modified, turboed and riced, etc. The dropped thing is the only thing that scares me because of the michigan's roads.

I seem to be one of a few outliers in the subaru market in Western Michigan at least, Hondaslayer is another fellow michigander, but we are a small breed, people try to bash my car all the time because i'm "going against the grain" because i want to make it more like a "truck" even though it's a "sports car"

I live in NW WA, everyone drives them! There's not just one "image" here.

Well, that is interesting as Subaru don't make a sports car. And a Forester is certainly a long long way from being a sports car. I reckon you seem to be on the right track

Well ther is the on again off again toyoru or subayota that is coming. And turbocharged imprezzas can be argued....

nipper

Yes, good point. From what I have seen that subayota is something akin to a sports car, and let's hope Subaru are only responsible for the engineering, not the styling. Not that Toyota would have Aston Martin shivering in their boots. No, a WRX is not a sports car- too many doors for starters. Speaking of Aston Martins- even they are not a sports car, and they are much closer to being one than a WRX. (And infinitely better looking too!)

It has got me thinking: maybe my perfect car would be one that has the sound of a Lamborghini Gallardo, the looks of an Aston Martin DB9, the performance of a Veyron, handling of an F430, braking of a GT2, ease of servicing of a Subaru..... Oh dear, there I am day dreaming again and I haven't even got to anything that goes offroad!

I'll agree with that. :iconwink:

Sounds great. Put me down for one today.

In Estonia, Foresters are a quite rare sight - at least in summer. But when the usual estonian winter arrives (with -20 C and a foot of snow) then most other cars are rare :) In my neigbourhood the usual "wintercars" are Foresters, big 4x4´s and Audi quattros. So a Forry is a perfect wintercar.
