Photobucket stops posting of photos on forums

I have received an email from Photobucket advising that:
WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*

Their proposed pricing is about double what I pay for my web site.

My web site has unlimited everything, SSDs and up to five add on domains included. The latter is what makes my hosting plan so expensive!! Otherwise it would only cost me about $60 p.a. ...
 
Well I checked a couple of my photo posts and they are still there! I am pretty disappointed given I went with Photobucket originally because they enabled you to post on forums. They had the specific tools to enable you to do what they are not now allowing me to do.
I will be very annoyed if photos in my various posts disappear :(

This is particularly irritating as I am heading off in a few weeks on my big trip upto the Flinders Ranges and was hoping to do some posts with photos along the way :shake:

Some sites permanently store embedded images, some don't.

It might also be the case that there is a relevant date involved. Images embedded prior to that date might still be served, images after that date are rejected. I don't know.

When I first set up my own site about ten years ago, I contemplated a lot of these sorts of things. Glad I did ...

what a great opportunity for other 3rd party hosting companies.

is there an easy way to automatically link existing pics or is a case of manually trying to find the right picture, upload it elsewhere and re-link it?

Our threads are locked for editing anyway, what a bummer :(
 
That reminds me can another photo hosting service be recommended that will allow posting photos on this forum?
 
HC & ST, Flickr still provides free hosting and (convoluted) embedding. Google also offers free hosting, but embedding images from there is even worse than Flickr.

Our site doesn't currently allow direct upload of images into posts.

Correct. However we do provide an Pictures & Albums facility via User CP or Quick Links. Current settings are:
Maximum File Size per Picture 97.7 KB (Contributing Members get double this size) Maximum Picture Dimensions 600 by 600 Pixels

Perhaps we can increase this for Contributing Members.
 
You could try the following:

It has done a number on a lot of forums..
But because you can edit your post here there is a way of getting your photos back..
I'm not sure how long it will last for.
You need to put ~original in there at the end of jpg just before [/IMG][/url]

Kevin can you put up some instructions on how to use this facility please. I am a bit technophobic at times !
 
Just rechecked some of my photo posts and note that Photbucket has blocked my photos. What a bunch of :censored:

Logged on to photo bucket to download my pics, bombarded by 1000 ads.
I am now a happy imgur man.
 
What a bunch of crock! I went ahead and deleted my Photobucket account. F**k them! :evil:
 
I don't know how true this is but I've heard that facebook purchased photobucket. Seems like they're trying to further kill off forum usage to get it on facebook.

Conspiracy theory much? Maybe but it's possible...

Well they will never ever get me on Facebook, even if it is the last site on the Internet.

I still know how to write a letter and post it, unlike a lot of kids of today. :poke:
