The XV has no temperature gauge , only a temp light that goes OUT when the temp is HIGH ENOUGH (???)
Useless for towing of dirt road driving. Does anyone know the following:
If I disconnect the temp switch will it produce an ecu error. I can use the switch plughole to put a proper temp gauge sensor in.
Which is the better ( best) gauge to use for subies.
Is there another blanked plughole I could use on the motor?
Are the inline hose fittings for temp gauges reliable ( providing I can get one to fit).
Has anyone put a CANBUS type meter in with success and are they reliable?
Haven't had to put a temp meter in a car for decades as everything had had one. Why is Subie so backward???

Scangauge II is your friend ... :poke:.

Our SH has this 'feature' also. Apparently it comes on RED if it gets too hot.
Bloody accountants - and I am a retired one!

My forester is the same,
the light goes off at 50'c
I'm using the $15 ebay ELM327 Bluetooth dongle in the OBD port connected to my Android head-unit/ GPS via the Torque app
It's been extremely reliable, allows you to see just about every engine parameter there is and add custom ones too. plus interrogate the ECU for engine fault codes and reset them too.

Will the scan gauge 2 need anything else to get it interfaced.
I used to work with a LOT of people with accounting degrees. You seem so intelligent for an accountant...lol.
Actually our MTB club treasurer in an accountant. Used to be a biologist for CSIRO researching plant diseases until the moron federal govts closed down so many research stations. We can see why the world is headed for s***t.

Haha. Thanks :).

My understanding is that it comes with everything necessary, but I do not own one.

I have a cheap Chinese dongle and the free Torque app on my phone and tablet. Mine is really just for troubleshooting/clearing codes if stuck.

Love my SGII ! Does the XV have an ODBII port? If so, just plug it in then you set some standard parameters like fuel type, tank capacity etc and then pick which 4 readouts you want permanently displayed e.g. temp (C or F), air temp, taco, speed, trip info etc (also has +- adjustment for speed so you can set true speed); lots of goodies! Can clear fault codes too!

Is it on the Foz. I am pretty sure the XV has an OBD2 bus port but I haven't found it yet. Anyone know where it is. I know what the older round ports look like but I believe the 2 is very different

should be under the centre of the steering column

This is from XV Forum and for LH drive but may interpret to RH drive as well: "It is way under the driver's side dash. Look on the left side, towards the footrest pad. I had a hard time finding it as well. It is also oriented vertically unlike most cars I've owned in the past, so that also threw me off for a while."

Well that was exciting. Australian seller has NO STOCK. US Online won't sell to Australia. Guess scangauge is out. Back to finding a way to add a simple temperature gauge.

Here's torque running on my Android Head-unit

What head unit is that and how are you finding it?

Mine is the AutoPumpkin version.
but just a generic Chinese "RokChip"
As above, RAdio, DVD, DVR (just add a front camera) reversing camera, gps, all that fruit.
integrates with the factory steering wheel controls which are customisable to suit you.
i.e I use the "mute" button, to Pause the media player, and you can programme in a "long press" to give twice as many functions

It's only issue is poor bluetooth microphone audio.
