Welcome aboard Mick.

Personally, I'm a fan of retaining the factory air-boxes, they flow well and standard filters are cheap and easy to get.
Plus NA intake tuning is a bit fragile when it comes to changing pipe lengths/ diameters, etc

Which engine does yours have? MAP or MAF sensed?

But either way, a good solution to keeping the intake clean and dry is to use some new piping (rubber, silicone, steel, alloy or PVC) from the standard airbox, into the inner-guard and then point it rearwards right back to where the drivers door opening is.
you're very unlikely to suck in water from this point unless the car is submerged up to the windscreen,
and it's a good source of nice cool air

Gidday Mick

:welcome: to the ORS forum mate.

Your engine has a MAP sensor. It will be an EJ-251. The later EJ-253 has a MAF sensor.

I agree with Rob - do not muck around with the intake manifold danglies or the pre-filter chamber. These are tuned like a fine musical instrument and changing them can (will ... ) cause your engine to run like a pig.

They are there to create the right kind of turbulent flow into the combustion chamber/cylinder, and also to prevent the wrong kind of flow, either laminar flow or standing waves in the inlet manifold system.

Thanks for the info, il be looking at taking the sume pipeing back towords the door , iv just had a new zorst pipe fited, no more rateling from inside stufed baffles , and a beter boxer note as well!

Hey Mick, one more to agree, keep as much factory as you can. There aren't ant Subaru specific snorkels but several fit the Forester nicely. I have the NH-NK Pajero snorkel on mine, very happy with it. Just needs a little bending to make it fit perfectly, write up on it here:DIY Snorkel Installation

Or Robbks's suggestion is effective too.

Lyn just looked over my sholder at the snorkel idear, and sead your not doing that to the car , im not driving around with sumthing like that on the car !
