Subaru XV suspension thread

Yeah, I've designed caster offset into all my kits. It really does make a difference!

Nice to see your alignment went well and you're enjoying the lift

Now the really expensive stuff. Springs and shockies, wheels and tyres ( and have to make a front skid plate and a diff plate for the rear.

SOme hints to tell your aligner.

ZERO TOE....
and repeat
ZERO TOE

this it what helps them change direction nicely.

Any axle that is "driven" will have a natural tendency to toe-in under thrust.
So if your alignment already has toe-in when static, you get even more when the car is being driven, this makes all 4 wheels want to turn towards each other and make the thing drive straight., but it makes it a pig to turn.

when you are off throttle just before a corner, the front wheels will toe out a little, which helps the car turn in when you give it some steering angle (it acts like you've used more brake on the inside wheel)

The place I got my alignment done ( local fulcrum) has 3 subies in various states of sports modifying that belong to the owners. I suspect I got an "in the know" alignment

New development ( also covered in Tyres and "what have you done"). Here as well as there isn't a lot of XV stuff on the forum.
OK the tyres and rims now fitted. Total lift is now 40mm. NO problems found with rims tyres fitting. Slightly lighter rims/tyres. 15mm extra lift from the tyres 215/70 r16 over the 225/55R17.

Stock everything

1" lift kit plus 15mm from tyres.

They appear to be MY00 WRX rims

And THAT is how an XV should roll out of the factory

The lift looks great especially with the larger tyres but not such a fan of white on white, sorry.

I am from NQ ( now in Bundy) . Having lived there you should understand. Anything else is too hot. I love white on white. It indicates my purity...cough, cough...choke.
Actually I used white because it is THE most stable paint colour. TiO2 stays white.

Took the rear sway bar off completely. Not only not a detriment to handling but a HUGE improvement. Pushed the crap out of it in the dirt AND on the bitumen. It doesn't tram track at all any more. Rear smoothly follows and smoothly pulls in under power now.
I was wondering WHY it had it on at all, on a car designed for dirt roads. Think it is because most XV's have the god aweful auto transmission, which means that you can't get a good push/pull around tight corners so the rear ( ridiculously rising rate) stiff sway bar helps keep the car flatter.
In my opinion ( only) if you have a manual XV chuck the rear sway bar. Side benefit of more articulation off road.

Well it seems to for my driving style. Might be a good time to point out I am an ex motorcycle racer. I tend to acc BEFORE the apex of a corner. Doesn't seem to stand the car more upright sooner though...LOL

Just reading through all this info, I am keen to get a 1" strut spacer lift, with the other items needed. (brake line extension etc)
Is anyone doing this complete kit.
Thanks.

Hey sammo, I do lift kits for the Crosstrek plus other models. I can do a 1" or 2" lift kit. The 2" has the advantage of camber & caster offset for good handling & steering and comes with a 2" subframe spacer kit to keep the rear suspension geometry accurate & the rear wheels centred so you can fit bigger tyres without rubbing.

Feel free to PM me for details :)

Sammo. If I did this again. I would probably go 2" lift and 16" wheels with slightly smaller tyres to give a bit more turning clearance.
My XV is 40mm total raise ( 25mm lift and 15mm increase in tyre radius) . A 2" lift would give 50mm or only 10mm higher. That would allow the tyres to be a size smaller and less clearance problem at the front and back of the guards and turning. The problem with it is that it makes it more visually obvious. If you want a stealth look you won't have it.
If I had gone the 2" way I would have had to manufacture and reroute the front AND back brake lines. I believe NL has this now in hand and fixed.

Yep these are now included in the kit! :)

Just received my 1" strut lift for my XV, now need to FINALLY decide what size tyres to get.
1. 225/60r17
2. 225/65r17
3. 235/60r17
Thanks Matt.
