Buying a car in Eastern states?

How about shipping the car over on a train? That's usually pretty cost effective. Perhaps it might work out well by the calculations so far, but who knows what could happen along the way (ie, will you be packing a replacement radiator in case the end tank happens to irreparably split?). Otherwise, work the costing for an extremely long distance towtruck rescue into the equation just to be safe, unless you have some kind of mega roadside assistance protection in place already?
Maybe I'm getting old but I like to plan for the unexpected where ever possible these days.

Also maybe you could work out a deal with someone from this forum (or similar) who is based in the same area as the car? You purchase the car, this other person goes to collect it. They send you the bumper and keep / part out / sell the rest of car themselves.

Does anyone know about taking tool on a plane?

Usually isn't a problem for checked baggage. just allow extra time to go through security. Only problem i had was with forgetting to empty some butane soldering gear, get gas when you land. Don't take any blades, even on a leatherman, no hacksaw blades etc.

^ I agree Andrew. However, Taza may not be aware of upgrading his RAC Roadside Assist cover to the top level for the car. This would cover retrieval costs.

Worth a phone call ...

Here in Victoria, this level of cover extends to 4 cars, IIRC. It's just not that expensive! Here it costs around $70 extra pro-rated for the balance of the year.

Done some further research... since last night.
I can freight the car over for around $1100 to 1300 which ia probably the best and safest move in an old, unknown vehicle.

the owner won't sell the bar seperately and freght over, not even at 2/3 the price of the whole vehicle!
If someone wants to out their hand up to buy the vehicle and sell me the rear bar be my guest. You'd be able to buy a half decent SF for under $1000.

I currently have the highest level of RAC roadside assistance cover possible. I'd use it 4-8 times a year with all the blown motos, boxes and so on. Plus I drive so many other people vehicles where it be for pleasure, repair or modifications. This cover keeps me covered in any vehicle across the whole of Aus.
However when your out in the bush with no phone signal, alone its a different story!

Anyone want to go halves who lives on the eastern side? You'd pick up a decent SF cheap, with new shocks, springs, a full 2" body lift kit and 6x BFG 215/75r15 muddies plus a whole car??

How did you go with getting the car over to you taza??
